k guys, I need some help getting a gift for my dads 70th b day. he's a Vietnam vet, he loves the mountains and outdoors like we all do on here. but hes unable to enjoy them as much as he once could, health reasons. racking my brain on what to get him but cant think of anything. I thought a nice smoker but he already has one I just found out. any help?
What does his fishing tackle look like? Maybe a new rod and reel?

he makes knives, use to at least, handles made from elk and deer antlers. keep ideas coming. CC help me out:)
I had the same dilemma a few years back. I racked my brain, talked to my Mom & Sisters and still came up empty. My Dad loved to hunt & fish so I chartered a boat & guide and took him fishing. My Dad would rather catch trout than anything, so we went to a lake in California and caught a ton of nice trout. Dad talked about it the rest of his life....best $500.00 I ever spent!

doesn't read books, thanks CC, he just isn't up for hunting anymore and I know that drives him nuts! he tries but scares us to much to take him, cuz hes to stubborn to know his limits. I think the fishing trip is what we will do. funny thing is he will wade out into a fast moving river waist deep and fish for cuts with his old 7foot rod but he wont step foot into a boat. maybe ill take him up on one of his fav mountain rivers and get all us boys to come up like the good ole days. I was thinking it but when you said It it hit home. now I just need a yeti 110 with some silver bullets:).....

Been outside looking at the full lunar eclipse and it is just beautiful. Sky is so dark here (not much ground light from cities or towns) in the country that it is really spectacular!

Wished I could've seen it. Had camera and tripod on standby for a miracle, but it's been overcast and raining since Sat evening and still at it this morning.

Leave it set up Packmule, it will be back again in 14 years. Clouds covered the eclipse for me too, but later on the full moon came out and it was almost as bright as the sun.

A boat with a truck to pull it!

Sounds like he would really enjoy a fishing trip.

I don't think I can make a tripod last 14 years.

I think my hunting season is going to be kinda short this year due to a death in the family. I decided to go to North Dakota and visit instead of hunting deer in Idaho 2 weeks ago but unfortunately I got there 2 days after Roy passed away. I spent the last 2 weeks working on the things I was going there to help him with. I will be going back in a couple weeks for the memorial and to get a horse which is going to fall somewhere in Idaho elk season. Im still hoping to get away for a couple days for elk and I will hunt some of ML deer season here in WA that opens in a few days but after being gone for 2 weeks I will be really busy during it. I guess some things are more important then hunting.

Well said. Some things are more important than hunting. Sorry to hear of your loss.

Some things come first MM. I had the same situation in 2012 when my Dad passed away. Had to turn in my Colorado antelope tag, but at least I got the 12 points it took to draw it back. Hope everything works out for you. My condolences to you and your family.

Im glad now I didnt draw anything this year. General tags I can have any year dont taste all that bad when it comes down to it in a situation like this and I have some ideas where I can go closer to home if I can only go for a day or 2.
