I sent him some email about 6 months ago with no success. He really enjoyed old guns which is my hobby too. We had a lot of conversations via pms. He also wrote a story for EHJ about antelope hunting. Miss his posts a lot.
Yeah i agree me and him used to talk about old guns on pm a lot kinda showed him how to get a C&R. Miss talking to him

I remember him saying he had a lot going on and was working a lot, but it'd still be nice to hear from him every once in a while.
Seems funny, but I think of a lot of us forum regulars as 'family'.

I know more about some of the folks on the forum and their families and such than a lot of my local contacts. Made a lot of friends that I keep in touch with outside of this forum.
I guess we (on forum) have more in common than my locals. :)

If I had time I’d drive up to Colfax Wa and hunt him down. I’d just look for the Ford with an old 30-30 in the gunrack. Wait, there’s probably a lot of those in Colfax....I know, the one with a rattle snake killing shovel in the back.

I have about 150 miles on the new engine in the blue truck. Man that truck is whisper quiet, I may take up road hunting. I think I’d be more stealthily driving it around than walking around with my squeaky Kuiu pack on my back.

I do hear a little air in either the window or doors when driving down the highway but that’s it. I had to replace a couple speakers that were blown out that were annoying. It has the original radio and cassette player, I’m keeping it that way.

Picked up another project on the cheap last weekend. Needs a transmission swap, the replacement came with the truck I just have to do the work. This one will likely go to my daughter.

Those are some great pick ups. I’ve had a few myself
I have never and will never own CHEVY. I have been forced to drive a few as worktrucks and can say with all honesty FORD IS BY FAR A SUPERIOR PRODUCT!

CHEVY engines and drive train is great but the shell of the pickup is junk. never drove a chevy, that the doors still sealed tight on after they were one year old.

Had an 07 Ford F-250 with a 5.7 Worst and most gutless truck I ever had the displeasure to operate. Had a 98 dodge dually v10 that was nearly as bad but not quite. I think all of em are made cheap and crappy these days so good luck with ur next ford.

I've been mostly a Ford guy all my life. Best truck I have ever owned was a 1999 F350 Super Duty, 7.3 diesel, auto tranny, 4x4 extra cab short bed. Put over 300,000 miles on it and never did any tranny or engine work., just maint. Started having a few minor things go wrong, so traded it for a used 2014 F350, 6.7, 4x4 with 19,000 on it. If it lasts as long as th 99, I PROBABLY WILL BE TOO OLD TO GET A DRIVERS LICENSE!

Worst truck I ever had was a 1978 Ford F250 XLT. It was beautiful but was the most gutless, unreliable POS ever. When it overheated it would die. Put in new rad and t-stat, still overheated. Suffered from vapor lock. Put in electric pump and re-routed fuel line, still died. Climbing a hill it would die. Sitting at a stoplight it would die. Ended up getting rid of in less than 1 year.
Best truck I've ever had is my current 1997 Dodge. Bought it in 2000 with 45,000 miles on it. Currently has 264,000+ miles on the original gas engine and trans.

I have had them all. A 74 Dodge Power Wagon with the 360, it was a mule and would go anywhere.

A 77 Chevy Blazer with a 350, another one that would go where ever you pointed it with plenty of power.

A 84 Ford F250 and a gutless 351. While it went anywhere I wanted it to go the best mileage I got with it was around 8mpg. It didn't matter if I was towing a trailer or just driving down the freeway. It had a hard time getting out of it's own way. I once burned through 40 gallons of gas in it in only 100 miles. I had a cab over camper on it and a very strong head wind and pulling a trailer.

I now drive a 96 Ford F250 with the 7.3 diesel. It has enough power to drag your home off of it's foundation. 200K on the odometer and it is still going strong. Mileage is some of the best out there. The best I have gotten is 22mpg and the worst was 14. Put chains on all 4 tires, shift it into 4 low and you can go just about anywhere. I'll have this truck at least another 5-10 years. All I have done with it is regular maintenance except for a cracked tail shaft on the 5 speed which was due to a broken transmission mount.

I don't think that you could talk me into buying any of the new ones. All the emission crap that the newer diesels have on them choke them down so much that in my opinion they are putting out more crap than they would if you just opened them up. The big three are in a HP and torque war. Ford says 500hp and 800 lbft of torque then Dodge comes out with 505hp and 805 lbft of torque then the week later Chevy ups that by another 5 on both of them.

Body wise I would still pick the Ford over both of the others. The Chevy is low slung and really isn't set up for off road, Dodge is still just a Dodge.
