I'm going to be in the Odessa area October 14th-19th for work. I'm hoping to shoot a hog or two while I'm down there... anyone have any leads or pointers? I will have a couple half days available and then evenings as I'll be working during the day. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Now don't hold me to this but I don't think there is many places to kill a hog around Odessa/ midland area. I have only worked there but I think you will have to travel a few hours to find hogs

I would look into a North Texas hunt along the Red or Pease if possible. Some also showing up near Amarillo.
That is bow season in Texas so you may find outfitters busy with those guys. Some good hog outfits all over the state but check the hunting style, some are put and take type hunts, some high fence. Most places with a real problem will not have any limit on number or size of hogs. Shoot some sows and make the landowners happy, might get an offer for another hunt out if it. We make friends by taking big sows with young and chasing a boar after.
Fun hunting and great table fare.
You'll find everything from big spotted hampshire types to the wooley russian boar types. These are Red River hogs taken about due north of Ft Worth.
You might take a gander at Texas Hunting forum, lots of feedback on hunts there, Texas Bowhunting forum also.

CC has a good idea. Local cafe might also get you some access.
Hogs are out there but not in as many numbers just yet.
I have a BIL that works for a service company out in that field, I'll ask him if he knows of a good outfit or landowner. You might find trespass fee hunting with some phone calls and face to face meetings.
Hope it works out cause they are fun to hunt.

Thanks for starting this thread HT; and to those contributing.

A DIY rifle hog hunt is something I've been wanting to do for a long time in either Texas or Oklahoma. Mostly looking for a fun meat hunt/camping trip sorta deal.

I know the pigs are smart and hunting them is not a cake walk. Sows and small one would be fine for us; nice to get 1 nasty looking boar as a trip souvenir. [emoji241]

The public land in East Texas is a good place to camp and walk around the woods looking for pigs. You just have to do your research to learn the rules because each area can be different. A shotgun would be my weapon of choice.

I am making some headway- thanks to all those offering ideas. I have hunted them in the past in Northern Texas and loved it. I try to find something outdoors related on every work trip so I'm open to other idea in that area as well I just thought hogs sounded like the most fun. I'll let you all know if I find something worth reporting back.

Side note, I live in Northeast Georgia. If anyone finds themselves in this area PM me. I have good local knowledge of where the sounders are at on the National Forests and Corp of Engineering properties...

They all deserve to die... and I will help you kill them.

Calling or spot and stalk. You choose.
