What County or Counties is your tag good for and what county are you targeting? Probably a region, but none the less I hope you smack a good one!!

Looking forward to it Dave! Hopefully I'll see some I can report back to you about when I'm out there working. You know you are going to shoot one of those border jumping deer that lives in NE most of the time, but you just shoot it in KS anyway. The KS government thanks you for your tag money though!!

The mule deer hunting there is great from what I read. The real problem is that you need a point to apply as a non resident..Then you draw a whitetail tag....then you go into a mule deer drawing (If you want)....then if you don't get the mule deer tag you are stuck hunting whitetails. They do not give you a refund if you are unsuccessful in the mule deer drawing. I have a couple points there but I'm not going to apply for the mule deer permit until I have a DAMN good place lined up to hunt whitetails....I hate their setup...

Ah yes. And I forgot. The odds in drawing a mule deer tag sucks pretty bad for the better areas.

Glad to see you got your tag NE69!

Yes, tough odds for the muley tag after you draw the whitetail tag. About 15% chance on the mule deer stamp. Price went up this year too. I don't care for how it's set up either, but no choice if you want to chase them. I hunt a lot right on the state line, this year I will have both tags in my pocket. Got to make it happen this fall as the odds are against me drawing it again for some time. Great chance at a mature mule deer.

robie, I didn't make very good use of this tag. I scouted a few days and just didn't find what I was looking for. I spent most of my time hunting a couple huge muleys in Ne that were farther away than KS, but on relatives land I could hunt on. The one a friend took grossed 218". I think KS is great, but mule deer density is low. I do see some huge deer in KS and will keep trying for the tag. I drew it with zero points, but it is $700 for the tag and license. I have a lot of connections in KS and see a lot of huge bucks hanging on their walls.

Thanks for the update. I did some more research and unless I find a some private land to hunt on I'm going to sit KS out.

Totally agree, private is much better option if you can find it. I do quite a bit of business in KS and ask about deer hunting access at every job site. It is still tough even though I have the connections. Most of my customers are pretty open to deer hunting on their property, but say that they just never know where those mule deer will be from week to week so it's nothing you can count on finding them on the property you have permission on. Very open country so they have to move a lot as the cover and food sources change. That being said, I see a high number of mature bucks in the herds.
