hey all, im from Arizona and will be putting in for the new mexico elk hunt next year, its to my understanding that New Mexico does NOT have PF or BP and that everyone has an equal chance at the draw is that true??? what percentage of tags do they leave for non resident hunters? thanks for any and all input

No preference points but that doesn't put everyone on level playing field. Residents get 84% of the tags off the top. Non residents with guide get 10% and nr diy get the remaining 6%. Some of the state game management areas don't even allow nr to put in for the hunts as they are resident only. I love the no preference pt system but in all other ways concerning nr hunting new mexico is middle of the road AT BEST. Idaho also has a no preference point system but doesn't handicap nr hunters nearly as bad. If Idaho wasn't so far away I would put in for it over nm anytime.

NM took a dump on NR hunters this year and have been doing so for many years. Changing the rules after people did applications and mailed in $ this year. In some cases there was not even a NR tag available after the change so people had 0% chance of drawing. Not a NR friendly state which really sucks.

NR w/outfitter usually have better odds than NR w/o outfitter.

Sometimes it's a bit of a difference, sometimes it's a lot! also depending on which season too.

I haven't seen that new structure WapitiBob. Where can I find the info?
I just went today with my dad to order a Bowtech Carbon Knight. At 67 I finally talked him into it!

They pulled the proposals after they were approved and will repost but not sure when. I'v been looking for them.

All the archery seasons will follow the 2 season format that 34/36 have been on. No more 3 seasons for Gila, etc.

With the overturn of terk I won't be applying for anything in NM w/o an outfitter number. If that's how you guys want it, I don't like it, but I'm going to give myself the best odds I can.
