Hello EHJ Community. I'm a western hunter, born and bred. My family settled on the central coast of California over 150 years ago and I'm raising the next generation of locals. Our family comes from the ranching and farming tradition in CA and hunting is in our DNA. The outdoors and wildlife are my passion and I've been lucky to continue this into my professional career. I started my own consulting business 3 years ago and haven't looked back...being my own boss means I can go hunting anytime without asking a boss if it's ok (that is the best feeling ever). We have family friends that run a cattle outfit in Idaho and we go there every year for elk and deer season...but this year we're making a pit stop in Wyoming for Antelope! Can't wait to get back onto the sage flats, looking up at the Rockies, and glass for speed goats. Really hoping for at least a 14-inch buck to get mounted for my first shoulder mount. I took a heavy 13-inch buck 4 years ago near Farson Wy., hoping I can top that. By the way...helpful hint...hand sanitizer does great at getting rid of the antelope smell on your hands after processing your goat! Good luck and stay safe everyone! Shoot straight!

Welcome aboard.......

Narrow the coast down just a little. Where are you now?
I have lived up and down that coast and I always find it interesting to hear what someone describes as the Central Coast.

Hey Guys, apologies for the long silence...I didn't have my notification settings correct. We had a great hunt last year and I got a nice 14-inch buck just outside Shoshoni, WY, near "Lost Cabin". Can't recall the zone off the bat. We had good weather and saw lots of goats, most in the 13-14 inch range during the 3 days we hunted. Most of the herds were small as we didn't get any snow to get them to gather up. We stayed in Shoshoni and met someone at the dinner from Hi Mountain Jerky and got some cool swag...very friendly people. I got this buck fairly close to the truck and the close range plus my 7mm Mag (I was elk hunting the next week in Idaho and only brought the one rifle) did a number on the meat, but we got some good sausage and steaks out of him and fed the family all year. My goat wasn't a huge monster, but I got him mounted to preserve the memory of the hunt to honor the animal and to show my kids how beautiful these animals are. Thanks again for all the well wishers...shoot straight and good hunting!IMG_20150129_145521.jpg

Welcome. I am a 5th generation Californio, family came before the gold rush to Campo, between San Diego & Yuma. Then went to Stockton during the big yellow metal rush. I retired 15 years ago and moved here to SW Colorado. I have hunted a lot near Lost Cabin and know the area pretty well.

Good hunting ............

Doesn't have to be a monster to be a trophy. Pronghorn are beautiful animals.

I went to HS in Morgan Hill, a couple hours north of SLO and graduated from San Jose State. I've been an independent investment advisor for 20 years, and yeah, the best things about having your own business are setting your own schedule and doing things the way you believe is right. I wouldn't think of going back.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Colorado Cowboy...good to hear from a fellow long time California native! Hopefully you get to come back once in a while to chase blacktails, but it's hard to beat Colorado bucks!

Thanks for the welcome hoshour! Good to hear from another independent...nothing beats making your own schedule and the opportunity to prioritize the important things (family and hunting)!
