Hi, my name is Dan and I am a new member of the forum from Cheyenne Wyoming. I am newer to hunting and am going to try and take on my first big game (elk) hunt this year! I have taged along on other hunts before and expereinced the thrill of the chase and now Im hooked. Im researching/studying my butt off to be as prepared as possible come fall, provided I can draw a tag! Im not looking for a trophy bull my first time out, just looking for an adventure and to fill my freezer with some delicious elk!

Thanks for all the welcomes! If anybody who's hunted Wyoming before has and advice on areas to put in for I'd greatly appreciate it! I'm not looking for secret spots, just maybe some pointers. Ive looked at draw odds, area maps, and a lot of forum posts trying to figure this all out but its still a bit daunting. I have a 4x4 pickup, big bore 4x4 ATVs, I'm a Wyoming resident and am more than happy to hunt from a campsite away from roads/main areas

Best advice I can give is to get a subscription and read the MRS. Cuts the learning curve down a LOT and then you can probably get some better advice from the forum veterans based on questions you can ask from the MRS.

Once you get advice on what areas to put in for elk, put down GEN for your 3rd choice. You have a ton of public land in the Snowy and Sierra Madres ranges that are OTC for elk. You can be hunting in under 1 1/2 hours. I put in for high profile areas every year, haven't drawn one yet. So I get my general tag and go kill an elk.
