Just saying hi.

I grew up in Pa but didn't have anybody to take me out hunting when I was younger. So now that I live in Wyoming last year was my first year hunting and I did it pretty half assed. I missed the draw so I ended up general for deer but got a late season cow tag for area 19. I didn't manage to get a deer but I did get my first big game filling my cow tag.

This year I drew area 61 for antelope and I have the same cow tag again because I didn't draw for elk. I've been scouting for deer up in the Hoback area a bit. I got back into some pretty rough country but I'm still concerned I'll run into a ton of people back there coming opening day. Any advice for a new hunter would greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Just get past the fact you aren't gonna be alone in G/H for deer especially for the rifle opener. .I've located over 100 bucks including about 60 in the spot I plan to hunt so far ..I don't expect to be alone, but I plan my scouting to know the habits and movements of the big bucks so I have a better chance at being successful. I'll be hunting for 6 days of the archery opener in hopes of not dealing with the rifle opener. .but if my tag isn't filled ill be back up there and expect to see other people, but that's just the nature of hunting big muleys in this region

I saw several really nice bucks up there and bunch of others, but to be honest I'll probably take whatever is decent that won't be a pain in the ass to retrieve. I'll probably be up there solo so that could limit the nastiness of the country I allow myself to hunt.

I plan to head up there again soon. I was only able to spend one night up there this past weekend.

Can't beat the early morning up there.

Great camp site pic. I'll also be trying for a deer in the same area - bow for a few days then rifle opener. Sorry I can't offer any advice, but good luck!

As a new hunter so far I am just enjoying being out in the mountains. I'd normally just be bagging peaks, which I am still doing but now I'm just carrying a bit extra so I can do some glassing while up there. Hoping for a full freezer again this year.

Was just back in Pa this weekend to go to the IndyCar race in Pocono with my father and brother. Of course it rained out Sunday and I had to travel back here on Monday so I missed the race.
