When comparing my older 7.3 to the newer 6.7, I am sure both are very reliable and comparable in that respect. My 6.7 definately has more power than my older 7.3, but gets a lot less mpg. I also am sure it's because of all the pollution controls on the newer engine.
Jim is right about maintaining the engine, for that matter the case in all mechanical devices.
