Planning a trip to Colorado this fall for elk, Routt National Forest and White River National Forest area. I've narrowed my boot choice to either Irish Setter Elk Tracker or Cabela's | Meindl Men's "Perfekt™" 10" Hunter Boots This is based on the funds I have to spend . Does any one have experience with either of these?

Never had meindls, but elk trackers and have kenetreks. Personally I wouldn't wear my elk trackers out in the rugged terrain, not nearly enough support. The kenetreks have waaay more. Just my findings.

I just got a pair of Salomon Quest 4d gortex. They are awesome so far. Lots of support and comfort. They look like they will hold up to some abuse. They have them at Cabelas as well.

Ive had pretty fair luck with red wing/irish setters, dont know if I had your exact model, but in general, there gor-tex has held up pretty good for a mid-price boot,,routt nf isn't much different than any other nat forest,,youll want probly a 8" boot for decent ankle support,,get them broke in good ahead of time and you should be fine

I got a pair of Danner East Ridge boots that I used for a week long high country mule deer hunt in the rockies. They are one of the boots Danner still make domestically. Give them a look.

They have Gore Tex and I found the support to be excellent, I'm 6', 215#. I was on a budget and these were about 3/4 to 2/3 the cost of some the higher end mountaineering boots-which I'm sure are also very good. I liked my Danners and they broke in well, I went on short hikes during the summer to get them ready. My only issue was the leather got pitted a little bit in a few spots (toe box) during my hunt up in the mountains-some of those scree fields are nasty-and I think any leather would be challenged to come thru that unscathed. That being said, they are holding up and I still use them.

Just ordered a pair of the Cabelas Meindl Men's "Perfekt™" 10" Hunter Boots, they were listed "on sale" and couldn't pass up the $ savings. Also the reviews were pretty good. That, coupled with Cabelas return policy, almost made it a "no-brainer"

I wore my pair into the ground. You will enjoy them, so long as they fit your feet.

I also have a pair of Cabela's Perfekt by Meindl and from right out of the box they fit and felt great. Then after quite a few hikes in them I was sold on them. If you can get over the sticker shock on them they are a boot that should last you quite a while.

On the Cabela's warranty, it isn't what it used to be but it is still better than a lot out there. Way too many people were taking advantage of it by buying a pair of boots and then wearing them quite a while or until they were almost destroyed. They would then take them back and get another pair. From what I understand you can no longer do that and even if you wear them outside and get them dirty your chances of getting your money back or another pair are slim.

^^^^ this. I have them and they fit great right away. I've worn them every day for 2+ years and they've held up amazingly and still feel comfortable.

Fit is king, try as many boots on as possible. Don't do it at all at the same time, take several trips to the store and walk around with them on. Whichever one feels the best will be your winner.

I have Cabelas's Meindl 50th anniversary boot which is essentially the Perfekt Hunter model with a rand. Great boot. Good to go right out of the box. Never had a blister nor hot spots. I always felt support was lacking especially when side hilling. I purchased Kenetrek Mountain Extreme late last year. There is definitely a break in period with this boot. Once it's broke in there is no comparison, IMO, to Meindl Perfekt Hunter. The Mountain Extreme model provides phenomenal support when compared to the Perfekt hunter. If you have time to break in a boot, hunt in extreme conditions, I would recommend Kenetrek Mountain Extreme. If this doesn't apply you can't go wrong with Cabela's Meindl Perfekt Hunter. They have a newer model, Meindl Perfekt Extreme 400 gram, which comes with the rand and is a taller boot.

Does anyone know if you can get meindls uninsulated? I know 400 isn't much but my feet sweat so bad I don't want anymore insulation than necessary. Want to be able to use them for archery and rifle seasons.

I'm a LOWA man all the way but I know too many guys who are steadfastly loyal to the Cabela's MEINDLS of one model or another so I'd not be one bit afraid to go with them

Meindals do come uninsulated or insulated. I have the Perfekt Hikers which have served me well, but found I needed an insulated boot when early snows hit in WY last year. My partner had the Kenetrek Mt. Extreme 440 gram boot and he swore by them. He did have some hot spots, and likely just needed a better break-in before our hunt. I have some insulated Danner Pronghorns that work well when I am on later season guided hunts, but need something with better support for backpack hunts. The Meindal Perfekt Hikers are "Made in Germany", but the Perfekt Hunters and some of the other models are marked as "Imported". To me that means "China", and I doubt that the quality is the same.

I understand that some of their boots, especially non-leather boots are now made in China.

I still think, they're very high quality. If they're comfortable on your feet, you will love them.

I wear a different Meindl boot and I'm very happy with them. If you get them with a Gore-Tex layer, they don't breathe as well.

From personal experience, I have the Meindl's and would pick those 100 out of 100 times. They are far superior to Danner, which I have also used. I'm not a fan of Danner boots anymore, the waterproofing is mediocre at best, and the Meindl's are awesome. Haven't gotten a wet foot yet. The Meindl's are incredibly comfortable for me, and required very little break in time, which might be important since it's almost June.

Bought a pair of meindls a month ago and I love them. They are really comfortable and have great ankle support

Im on my second pair of Meindl Perfekt Hunter 10" 400 grams. First pair lasted 6 years and the reason they needed replaced was that the sole started to separate...but after 6 years of nearly everyday wear and the kind of hell i put them through...i couldn't complain.

I have a pretty wide foot up front, and the Meindls were the first boot I found that fit me right out of the box. Great ankle support, good lacing system that locks your heel back, but not such a stiff sole like some other "mountain" boots I've tried.

I just grabbed a pair of the uninsulated Perfekt hikers for the warmer weather hunts/woods work, but those 400 gram 10" hunters are my go-to boots for darn near everything I do.
