Looking for as much advice or help I can get on some good public land to hunt. I took off from MI mid may last year to hunt some of the sw reservoirs. I was going in completely blind. They weren't talking at all. I managed to ambush one a day before tornadoes started landing around us so I said let's go home. So looking to try again this spring. Would we be better off going earlier in the season? Any calling or decoy tactics to try?

I don't know anything about public land in Nebraska, but I'd go earlier. Archery opens up end of March, and shotgun starts April 18th. I hunt a little south of the line, in Kansas, and there's no better time to hunt then the first of April, in my opinion. The birds will be gobbling great, and those rios will come a mile to get themselves killed.

Ya I have hunted NE kansas several times but always on private. Last year I couldn't even get them to shock gobble, but I imagine thats from 30 days of hunting on public land. I will still probably make a go of it this spring. I did learn the land a little bit last year.
