Anyone have any info on hunting NE for muleys this year? I shot my one buck here in Kansas and am looking for a place fairly close to go and hunt as soon as I finish up with harvest. Right now, I'm looking at the Scotts Bluff area since it has the most public hunting that looks like it might have mule deer. It is looks like it may not have a lot of roads which may help as well. The other places I'm looking at are the sandhills or pine ridge areas, but those are getting a little far for me this year (typically not a problem for travel, but need to stay fairly close to home this year). I'm just looking to get out there and have a chance at a decent buck. Mainly I just want something to hunt the rest of the season! The ideal spot for me would be southern Nebraska due to drive time, but there is little to no public ground by the looks of it.

You will be able to get permission if you ask some of the land owners. Might have to ask a couple but for bow hunting it usually isn't a problem. Just hunt across the state line and save you a bunch of travel time. Scotts Bluff is another 4 to 5 hrs and fewer deer than Southwest Nebraska. PM me and I can help you out for a place to go.

I like the saving the extra drive time. I found out it would be about the same drive time to Scotts Bluff as it would be to SD where I used to hunt. Might as well go to SD if I'm going to drive that far anyway. Now I just need to see if I can scrounge up some cash to get that archery tag! Are the herds doing ok this year? Lots of rain and mild weather for the most part this year so I would hope they are doing well.

Stay away from Ft Robinson, turkey hunted there this past Spring and seen more elk than deer (3 mule deer doe and 2 wt doe).

Year before that I hunted the Black Hills for turkey in SD. I seen 16 trillion billion WT, 100 muleys and about 50 elk.
