Well after some hard hunting my dad was able to finally get it done on day 7 of the muzzy season in Colorado. He drew unit 61 which was a great area and new to us. We spent 9 days building lasting memories and laughing along the way. We hunted a few different areas and even convinced my dad to crawl down into a nasty canyon and spend 2 days in a spike camp. At 69 years old with a few health problems we knew we would have to work hard to get it done. After many encounters and some close calls my dad was able to sneak in on this bull tailing a cow and take him at 100 yards. He keeps saying to me everyday, "I can't believe I got a bull!" Thanks to those on here who gave us some helpful tips we really appreciated it. My dad has been fortunate enough to do some great hunts but never had the opportunity to hunt elk in the rut! I am pretty sure he is hooked! It was really good for me to go on a hunt with my dad and focus on killing a mature bull without even giving a thought about what he will score.... or man I wish we could have killed that 330 bull down in the nasty canyon. Reflecting back on this trip it was great to just enjoy every second with him in the woods and the cherry on top was taking a great bull!
