My son in law Travis has a "no tellum" creek that he had previously had success in, and he asked me to go with him this year. We went in late and set up camp, spent the next three days looking for muleys, we parked at the bottom of a trail and were walking up when we heard the buzz of an atv coming up, the rider grumbled about us being in there before him, you know the drill...he proceeded to drive that thing to the exact spot that Travis wanted to go, clipped up the steep hillside and shot a 1x2 buck. He threw it on the atv and we never saw him again. I flirted with a little forky, maybe 2x3 or 3x3...I couldn't tell because the new pines were so thick on that sidehill. I could never get a satisfactory sight picture on him, but had fun watching him. I will never cease to be amazed at what muleys do sometimes, I was watching his shadow go thru the trees on the skyline, and it looked as if he got shot, fell into some of the small trees..rolled around in there trying to get his bearings, then up and away. I guess they fall just like we do! Travis took an aggressive hike up the slope between us and camp, he got into some does..rested up till he decided that there was no antlers, and upon standing, here was a three point staring him down from 80 yards. Travis was not able to get a rest to shoot before this buck jumped into the same hole that all of the magic deer you have seen disappear jumped into! Travis continued to camp, I walked out wondering where he was, some guys on a side by side said in heavy Mexican accent, your son in law is at your camp , wet and miserable. He had stepped one leg dee in the creek just yards from camp. Anyway, we walked those slopes and glassed for all the rest of those days and the country was so steep my toenails fell off from biting into the front of my boots! Travis scoped out a deer about 970 yards away, but could not put antlers on him, even though we were sure he was a buck laying under a tree on top of a ridge. We got up the last morning, a little defeated from the rain and some degree of fatigue. I told Travis to grab his coffee and his gun, and we would hunt down the road and back, the trip down was nearly too dark to spot anything, let alone shoot! But we (ashamed of ourselves for road hunting) spotted eight deer, on Travis' side of the road, we stopped and saw a buck at the same time. We carefully set up and Travis said, "you take him, I want you to have a buck to take home." "You sure?" , I asked. "ya, go for it." Well I swung my rifle up to shoot and mistook a fog off the creek for a fog in my scope, Travis had him dead to rights, as I tried to wipe imaginary fog from my scope. I told Travis to take him if he had a sight picture! "You sure?" "Yes!!" and at about 4 counts he shot and that little forky came rolling down the hill like a bag of jello. He still thinks he is standing there, he's so dead! Around 120 yards with a 7 mag will do that! So Travis went up and rolled him the rest of the way t the road, did the high five and gutting thing, threw the deer on the truck and continued back towards camp. Some other hunters in a truck had told us of a spike hanging close to the bottom, and I was looking out for him, when Travis spotted the buck of my life (so far). I gotta stop here and thank Travis Bohman for taking me to his spot, and cheering me on. I would have not seen this buck, if not for the eagle eyes God gave to Travis. Same drill, got out and set up, shot and he went down hard, but stood back up to try to get away and I drilled him with another. He was down for good. He was 180 yards at about a 35 degree angle up, with much deadfall between us. Travis was so exited he almost ran up that hill, quite a feat for the steepness. He walked up and started hollering about how big this old buck was, I finally caught my 55 year old butt up, and beheld what I have dreamed of since my last "big" buck. The pictures say more than I can. The dark horns give evidence of a long life lived in high timber country. Can't wait get back somewhere next year to try to find a bigger one, or a spike. (They go good with eggs) The deer weighed 238 on the butchers scale, which would make him between 286 and 296 on the hoof! We tagged two bucks the last day of the season for the area we were in. Idaho General Hunt. I did not draw this tag! Open hunt! The taxidermist put this buck at 9 years old, and receding from his prime, due to the weaker fronts. He was not white faced, but man, he was old and BIG! As soon as we got to the gravel road, Idaho Fish and Game checked us and congratulated us on the "biggest buck they had seen out of there"; apparently bigger than the one he himself had dispatched the night before. He showed us pictures of a great buck, but I had to agree...the 4x5 I shot (5x6 if you count the 4 1/2 " eyeguards) was truly bigger than his. God blessed me good, as He always does.

Reno Nv

Got my Buck this year after 4 years of no Nv tags. I hunted 6 days for buck I had watched for 5 months and one non typical I watched for 3 years but was unable to relocate them after the muzzy season. My daughter was with me on the 600 yard crawl stalk on this buck to get within 400 yards. She a animal and didnt complain about the hard work it took to get this beautiful buck. The blisters on my knees and having my kid with me with me made this hunt one of the best Hunts of my life.
