So my brother is moving to Arizona, Sierra Vista, next week and I offered to help him. 24 hour drive from St. Louis, yahoo. If I'm making that drive we need to spend a couple days in mountains. We are big predator hunters in the Midwest and mainly will be targeting some desert song dogs but i would love to see an elk or two and learn the country. We can hunt coyotes anywhere so I guess I'm looking for suggestion as to where would be a good area to focus on?

Ideally we would like to be within a 3ish hour drive of Sierra Vista hunting neat terrain with elk, deer, and bears...He brought the option of buying an OTC bear tag if there is decent unit around. Any ideas will be greatly welcomed and appreciated!

Ps. We will be limited to a 2WD vehicle for this trip so can't get too crazy off road.

Thanks, JH

Sierra vista is pretty much desert, but there are Javalina in the area. There are some mountains west of there called the Patagonia mountains but I don't know the area.

Go over Montezuma Pass, south of SV. Tons of hunting on the SW side of the Huachuca Mountains. Las Cienegas StatePark is great too. That is north of SV, near Sonoita, AZ.
