fish and game seeks information about killing of juvenile wolves

Idaho Fish and Game is asking for the public's help in determining who is responsible for removing and killing young wolves from a den in northern Idaho.

The incident occurred in Kootenai County, about 15 miles from Coeur d'Alene, in the Sage Creek drainage. The incident likely occurred sometime during the week of May 16th.

Fish and Game manages wolves in Idaho as big game animals. There was no open season for wolves in the area when the juvenile wolves were killed.

Fish and Game officers collected evidence at the scene and are following leads. Fish and Game is asking any person with information about this incident to call the Citizens Against Poaching Hotline at 1-800-632-5999 (tip line available 24 hours a day).

Callers may remain anonymous. A reward is available for anyone providing information that leads to criminal prosecution of the case

Someone wants too keep the wolf population down...

The majority of us on here would like to see lower wolf populations but killing pups in a den is just wrong on so many levels. I would love to see states have the power to set seasons so we can legally hunt them... hopefully some day soon.

Man this is a tough one for me ! I am not of fan of wolves I know what they have done and are doing to the Elk and Moose populations in many areas, but killings the pups in the den is pushing the envelope ! We cannot pick and choose the games laws we will abide by .

Acts like this are not good for the cause we are trying to manage. .this only gives the antis more fuel for there arguments and fundraising efforts. .I wish people would realize that. This is not how we will keep managing wolves, its how we will lose that opportunity again

There was a thread on this same subject except it was about coyotes. Yes I know coyotes are not protected like wolves. Someone asked about the ethics of killing coyote pups in their den.
Some people said kill em all by any means. Some said it was unsporting.
Bottom line is whoever killed those wolf pups broke the law whether they like the law or not is unimportant.

People operating outside the law makes for bad publicity. Activists love that kind of thing because they can really harp on the story and that image becomes what the public thinks of when the subject of opposition to wolves comes up. It's a successful method for turning public opinion.

The same thing happens with gun control. What do most non-shooters picture when they see a picture of an AR-15? Many thousands of law-abiding citizens at a safe shooting range or one deranged mass murderer/terrorist mowing down victims? When the broadcasters who decide what is news and how it will be reported are solidly in the other camp, you have to be as careful as possible, and killing pups in a den is just plain STUPID and counterproductive.

The phrase, "never waste a crisis" was written by Saul Alinsky, the architect of much of what extreme liberals use for political tactics today - the idea being to pass laws when emotions are high and people want something done NOW, or so politicians claim. Unfortunately, acting hastily with strong emotion is a recipe for trouble.

lol. I'm curious , do you condone breaking all laws? or just the ones you disagree with?

personally , I wouldn't lose any sleep if every single wolf were killed. I just wouldn't do it myself unless legal. if it were legal to do so ,I would have no qualms with putting em in a gunny sack and tossing em in the nearest lake

Consequences if caught are pretty steep. Whomever did it would would be charged with a felony and loose their rights to firearms. Probably would have to drop tens of thousands on attorneys. Not worth the risk.

"If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." Thomas Jefferson

This law is unjust. If it werent for all the wolves that have been "illegally killed" we wouldnt have any deer elk or moose now. SSS!!!!
