Draw is open, you no longer have to submit the tag fee w/ your application, but they are now charging a $50 non-refundable fee per species as well as a $20 non-refundable bonus point fee per species to apply. Bottom line is it costs us way more to apply.

Is it a $50 fee ONLY for non residents?

Wish they would have just left it the way it was. $70 each is getting awfully steep. A steep price for steep odds.

Yes only for NRs. I feel your pain for the long odds...now if they'd set aside 10% for NRs in a seperate draw, that'd be better.

80 for a point with long odds, might be time to reconsider, although I'd love to hunt bighorns in Montana someday it's not looking too promising. Especially since they began squaring points a few years ago which really separates the top point holders.

Geesh... That just about seals it for me. I'm seeing more in state hunts in my future! I'm getting priced out. UH, maybe you could give us an analysis like you did on that other thread about wether it's "worth it or not"?

I'm sure glad I was blessed with a moose and sheep tag and have gotten to have the experience and the trophy on the wall. I just need a mountain goat now to finish up the big "3". If I can ever draw that, I think my out of state applications for moose, sheep and goat will cease. Having a hard time justifying application and tag fees anymore.

So this should increase applicants since they don't have to put the money upfront or decrease because it costs more in the long run? Either way I am 24 and in this for the long haul…

I'm a little less motivated since I already have a bighorn and a Shiras on the wall, it will be interesting to see if the number of applicants goes up or down.

Holy Smokes, I'm gonna have to be awful lucky to ever draw this tag before I go broke! Same thing WY did to sheep and moose points once I was invested. Oh well I guess I might as well quit whining. I'm still in! What the heck.

Wow Ump, that's awesome! I can't wait to see that one when you draw it.

I'm having a very hard time convincing myself to keep applying there. I feel like instead of applying in MT, I could spend the same amount of money on some raffle tags and probably have close to or even better draw odds. Using MT's draw odds data, in 2012, about 6,900 non residents applied for 11 ram tags for some fantastic drawing odds of 0.16%, about 1 in 625. And they're actually much worse than that when accounting for bonus points. Guys like Umpqua with his 169 points versus my 9 probably puts my odds around 1 in 5,000 or even worse for some of the units. Of course it depends on which unit a guy applied in so unless a guy has a lot of points, I just don't see how it is worth it.

Moose and mountain goat aren't quite as bad but still are pretty ridiculous.

I figure if I apply for 35 years I have a chance? I'm 24 and figure I will draw one of the three by then so I will stay in. Gotta pay to play right? They are definitely making it harder for the NR though.

That is why Montana needs to go to a seperate NR draw with a guaranteed 10% of the tags. They want our money, but they don't want to give us the opportunity to draw.
