Couldn't help but notice Montana raised the non-res Moose sheep goat tag fees by 66% each, from $750 to $1250.

I'm just curious if resident moose, sheep, and goat tags were also increased by 66% ??

I see that a resident tag is $125 what did it use to be?

I actually feel slightly better now that I realize resident vs non-res ratio is only 10x vs. the 38x bull elk ratio... lol.

Sounds like a bargain given I recently shelled out just over $2k a pop for the same tags in Colorado.
The only difference is Colorado gives back almost all that money where Montana keeps a healthy portion. I can remember how much now? I got out a couple years ago when the fees increased.

I hear you. I've been burning points on tags and then not starting back building points for a number of years. Costs, grandkids closing in on hunting age, and near impossible math to draw another at my age were the reasons.

For NR, MT was at 750 for a long time. At 1,200, while a big increase, they are still a moderate cost state for sheep as far as I know. WY Sheep was 2,200, Moose closer to 1,400. OR sheep 1,400, NM - crazy expensive.

Co is like $20 per species to apply. MT is now $75 per + $25 in "licenses".

I stayed in, I'm hoping people drop out and I want to see if the odds shift at all with the increased fees and costs.

OP asked about MT costs, so in that spirit, CO is also like a 2k sheep tag...with basically zero chance for what, the first three years? All adds up. It's about choices, so if you want a sheep, better to pay the tariff in AK/CANADA for a sure deal, or pick as many states as you can in the lower 48 and play the game. It is the old pay me now or pay me later, they all take their pound of flesh... CO is a good one, as is MT, none are "perfect".

I'm with Doe Nob, all you all stop putting in so I can draw another one...

Just shelled out $2100 for Idaho Moose. Montana's old fee of $750 was like clearance prices now its bargain pricing at $1250. For years they had great prices on everything, next thing you know they align themselves with every other state (deer excluded as those are high) and people cry poverty

I agree Montana was under priced for a long time, now it's more in line with other states. That being said I dropped out of their point game when they jacked the price on points, I couldn't justify the odds with the cost. That's a lot easier to do since I've killed a ram and noose already though. And compared to New Mexico Montana is a bargain still.

True, but they are all rip offs for NR. I'd love to see resident tags go up 5x or more in every western state, they already get the benefit of getting 90% of the tags, they should foot 90% of the bill!

budgets are balanced on the backs of nonres hunters....because they can....who cares if a few out of staters complain? What are we going to do, take vacation, meet in CO and march on Denver?

I hear ya, from a economics point of view they could only charge the nonresident fee to everyone and whoever wants to apply/pay that could.

odds would go WAY UP! as most residents wouldn't pay 1250 vs the old 125...

and since 10% of non-res tags generate half of the revenue generated? that means they could just double the non-res tags and generate the same amount off of 20% of the tags...

maybe that's the future with game being decimated by wolves? ha.

I'm not exactly being serious but if cash is king, you can almost in-vision this happening.
