I'm done waiting and ready to hunt so I really want to burn my WY max deer points this year. Haven't drawn anything anywhere else as well. I've narrowed my deer choice down to either 87 or 102. Wanted to get thoughts on this. Big factor is my wife will accompany me. Her first time on any hunt. We are 53 & 58 and in good shape. Wondering how the water, terrain and proximity to towns compares with these two hunts. I expect she will need a hotel occasionally for a break from camping. Wi-Fi for my work would also allow me to extend my hunt. Could arrive a week early to scout and hunt the full two weeks if necessary. I expect Rawlins is the only town with services near 87. I am somewhat familiar with that area as I've pronghorn hunted nearby units 56, 64 & 108. Don't know about 102. Thanks.

102 is close to Rock Springs or Green River. Plenty of hotels. You?ll have decent cell service throughout the unit. There is a Flaming Gorge lodge near Dutch John. Terrain is fairly easy going, some steep hills but not a lot of huge elevation changes.

I would steer clear of 102. I don't think it is all that it is cracked up to be. You are going to have a better hunt in 87 or I might even suggest 89. You might also want to look at the late hunt in 128 if you would like to chase pre-rut/rutting deer. In any of those cases you should be able to find hotel lodging in Casper or Rawlins or Dubois (not sure what all is there though).

Ya I picked these two partly because of the October season working best with my schedule.

I decided to try for 87 for a variety of reasons. Hope I get it regardless of quality. Struck out on yet another draw today (ME moose). I need a tag. Any tag.

In 2010 my wife drew 87 on the random draw. We based out of the Hampton Inn in Rawlins. It was about a 90 minute drive in and out each day.

I had her pass a buck the first day I still regret. I believe it was in the high 170's to 180 class but had a ridiculously small spread. The last three days are by far the best days on this hunt.
