“Officials are investigating a fatal hunting related accident. It happened at about 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Officials with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said 70-year-old George Olivo of Reidsville was killed from the injuries he suffered when the tree stand he was in fell to the ground.

Olivo was transported to Cone Health where he died.

"As a hunter myself, of course you never want to hear about it, both in my personal life and work life. Again, it's something that could happen to any of us," said North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Officer Nathan Green.”

Sad to hear and it seems to happen every year.

If nothing else everyone owes it to their "loved ones" to wear a harness. Someone wants you to come home...........

This reminded/reinforced for me to make sure I pack mine tomorrow when I leave for the Ohio whitetail opener. My wife and kids I imagine would like for me to come home safe!!! The extra sweat bead or two will be worth it!

I got grief from my father inlaw for wearing mine all the time until I told him that I still liked his daughter and wanted to keep coming home. Now that I have a daughter I make sure not to leave it at home. I actually did forget it one day and chose to sit on the ground that day... just not worth it in my opinion.

Something that inexpensive and easy to use, there are no excuses not to wear one.
That is sad news and it happens every year. A guy that I worked with dad died the same way.

Thanks for posting and the reminder!

Some tragedies are inevitable, this one was preventable. It is sad to think the of the grief this incident causes. People should also be hooked up while climbing and descending their tree stand. Tie off a static line and learn how to tie and use a prussic knot. You can also buy those setups pre-tied for a premium.

Hate to hear. Lost my best friend from HS to a fall from a treestand. He was hanging the stand and had his pregnant wife with him when it happened. Always wear your harness.
