Lowa Tibet GTX or LL?

I'm headed to central Idaho for a deer hunt in mid October and I've decided to pick up a pair of Tibets as we will be backpack hunting in pretty steep territory. I don't anticipate needing to wade across any creeks or anything... I'm thinking worst case scenario is wet vegetation in the mornings but I definitely want to keep my feet dry. Trying to decide between the GTX or the leather lined at this point...

Anybody have any experience with either or both?

Thanks!

I purchased the tibet gtx this year, but I've had the Lowa renegade gtx for several years. The fit of that boot steered me to Lowa. I purchased the tibet after never being able to get the Meindl Denali to fit right. The arch was too high. Needed a stiffer boot then the renegade. So if you haven't worn them you need to try them on too. These high end boots fit different between brands. Models fit different and sizing can vary in a brand as well

Long story short is the gtx version is the way to go...gives you all the benefits of a gore-tex boot with great breathability. Greater climate and season flexibility too. I have never regretted a gore-tex boot. Lowa has a patented method for how their boots are gore-tex lined. I have never had wet feet in renegades even when I sliced the outside leather all the way to the liner. That led be to trust their gtx boot...

Can't speak to the LL, but I have had my GTXs for 3 years now with no problems leaking or anything. I keep them waxed regularly and they are holding up really well.

Have you hunted with them in warm temperatures? 60-70's? It could be that warm during the day in October where I am going in my feet tend to sweat.

I only hunt the high country during the Montana. I have been wearing my Tibet GTX boots for three years from the low teens to the 80s. I have never had any issues. I would suggest you get your boots ASAP as it will take time to break them in. For most they must be broken in.

^^^yep, might take a while to break in boots. Go with GTX if you're committed to that price point. I wear the camino GTX and like them.

As for weather in central units mid-Oct.....2014 rained and snowed for 2/3 of general season.....2015 got into low 80s. Prepare to be prepared, as my old man used to say.

Good luck.

My feet got hot and sweat easy, so take this with a grain of salt. Ive hunted elk the past couple years in NM which have been relatively warm years. Day temps were mid 70s to lower 80s most days. My feet sweat like they were in an 800 gr. insulated boot when I was hiking. I brought a couple pairs of socks to change out which helped. When it is 60s or below my feet don't get too hot and sweaty. I've worn my uninsulated pair down to the teens without anything but my normal wool sock. After that they will get a little cool.

If your feet tend to sweat, bring some extra socks. I'll take a heavier, longer lasting boot than a lighter one where my feet won't sweat as much. The lighter ones always leak on me about half way through the season and these never have. Definitely break them in good before the hunt. It takes a while to break them in, but once you do you'll love them as long as they fit your foot right in the beginning.

I have both Lowa Tibets and Renegades. I've never had wet feet in either. I mostly wear the Tibets when it snows. The Renegades are great if it's not too steep and rocky. The pair of boots I actually wear the most are called Scarpa Kailach. They are considered a mid weight/height hiker. I've never had wet feet in them as well. They have a lot more support than the Renegades but not as much as Tibets. They don't weigh as much as Tibets....which is a huge bonus when covering lots and lots of miles while elk hunting! My Scarpas have always been my go-to boots for elk, sheep, and mtn goat hunting (which I've been doing a lot of the last few years). The Tibets are just a tad to stiff and heavy for me. Although my Tibets are very comfortable I only wear them when it snows because they are a little taller.

Awesome thanks for the info guys! I ended up deciding to go with the GTX's after reading all of the responses. I found some on clearance for $310 so I ordered a 10.5 and an 11 to see which one is gonna fit me best. Thanks again for all the tips and I'll let you know how they work out!

What wax do you like? I've used sno-seal in the past. Want to make sure I keep my feet dry for sure. Nothing ruins a hunt faster than jacked up feet
