Is it possible for a nonresident to hunt deer in eastern Nebraska? Thinking of looking for a new place to hunt on public land. I have hunted western Nebraska since 2002. Looking for a shorter drive. Thanks for any help you might send my way

I do not know a whole lot about the public ground in eastern nebraska, but I do know it gets the crap hunted out of it. Unfortunately all the areas are rather small in comparison to western nebraska. Lots of the deer usually head to private ground once they get pressured. My best advise would be to show up at one and start scouting. I know one area that should be really good right along the elkhorn river, but due to lack of enforcement this WALK-IN only area is a 4-wheeler paradise. (I have made many calls to game warden, sheriff, and game and parks..... nothing gets done). So with that information look for out of the place areas (away from towns) that might not get pounded very hard. I think south east nebraska might have good small plots of land that might look good.

Yes, it is possible. The archery and muzzle loader hunting on public is decent. The rifle hunting in general is a zoo. The deer are there but you will be putting up with a gob of people on most public pieces. That said, I know several guys who have taken nice bucks on public east of HWY81.
