that's the problem with asking folks for their opinion on what is the best, anything. everyone has an opinion an you know what they say about opinions.

I have had 3 Pair of Danners. First 2 pair lasted me 8 and 9 years. The last pair only 4 or 5. Good boots.

I'm 45 and I been wearing boots since I was 12, I never had a issue breaking in boots I can try them on at the store and not put them back on until opening day. So my question is what is a good boot that feels more like a " Shoe " than a actual boot? Something light weight, when I kneel down it conforms to my feet, waterproof and it doesn't matter if it's insulated or not.

Cabela's once had a fantastic boot, their Mountain Hikers II. They were lightweight and felt fantastic from the first time that you put them on, they no longer have them and they have been discontinued. They then had another brand that was almost as good but they only had a limited run of them I guess since they also can't be found.
I am now wearing a pair of their Meindl Perfekt light hikers. Feel wise they are not even close to the others that they used to have but they have done the job. I have worn them on two coues deer hunts, two javelina hunts, along with a couple of deer and elk hunts. I also wear them nearly every day and have grown a little attached to them. I did have to use a little bit of shoe goo on them when a piece of the lower rubber was detaching from the leather but other than that they are holding up quite well after 2+ years.

I will check into them now, I live in Colorado and I'm not hunting the high country like I use to, just hunting the low country in Colorado and Wyoming. Thank You for the information.

I should say that every time that I walk into a Cabela's, Sportsman's, Bass Pro, or any other store that carries foot wear I am still looking for that one low cut boot that feels as good as the ones that I got from Cabela's years ago.

Yeah, I understand. I was just looking at Bass Pro and they are starting to carry some Cabela's boots. I hate the drive to Cabela's just before you get to Denver. Bass Pro is a lot closer for me.

The Cabela's up in Thorton shouldn't be too bad of a drive from Bass Pro. There is also a Sportsman's up in Thorton just of of I-25

I live in Florence which is about an hour south of Colorado Springs, they have a Bass Pro and Sportsmen there and actually have a Sportsmen in Pueblo but it's smaller. I just called Bass Pro in the Springs and I didn't even get done telling the girl which Cabela boot I'm looking for and she said I know exactly which one your talking about and we are waiting on a shipment. lol

I've been wearing Asolo GTX 520 GV boots (~$330) for about 5 yrs now for any hike, backpacking, or hunting trip. With heavy pack loads of 120-140 lbs they have been nothing but supportive, and would highly recommend them if they fit your feet.
Unfortunately I was an idiot when I bought boots and thought these would stretch out to accommodate my super wide feet (I was in a hurry at REI). They only ever stretch out when they are soaked, but they shrink up again when they dry. The damn things won't die on me! It's routine for me to lose at least my two big toenails, and at least one of my smallest nails every year. Annoying and painful. I think I should buy a new pair soon even if they keep going.

One thing of note, just saw your post on hunting high country.
Two places that the solid one piece leather design boots with the rubber rand shine are in high country hunts and long heavy pack outs. If you aren?t doing a lot of that then something out of that realm closer to the athletic shoe fit may work very well.

Yes, I can't hunt the high country like I use to or I would be up there in a heart beat. I'm just hunting low country in Colorado and Wyoming, so I'm looking for a boot that fits more like a " SHOE ".
A few years back I read reviews on the Pronghorns and found a few that complained that while side hilling they cut into the ankle bones. Seemed to only affect certain people based on their foot / ankle structure so I decided to risk it. Training went fine but when I hit the mountains for my hunt side hilling began repeated cutting into my ankles causing visible bruises and severe discomfort. I upgraded after that to Kennetrek and now Crispi. No issues since the switch.

I would avoid Zamberlan, their warranty on extends to 1 year. After that your own your own. I purchased the Zamberlan Sherpa Pro (Gore-tex) hunting boot for ~$300, I thought I was buying a good boot that would last a very long time. Turns out they started leaking after 2 seasons...they told me to contact a cobbler. I provided evidence it was a design/mfg defect...they offered a coupon.

I've had similar success with Pronghorn, I'll say this much they provide a good comfort right out of the box and very little break in time. If buy a pair go full leather, the web / leather combination may start to leak sooner than full leather.

I bought the Danner Eastridge 400g boots a few years ago and have wore them since. Deer hunting here in MN and elk hunting in CO, I love them. This will be their 4 elk trip. They were a bugger to break in, but now are amazing. Feet stay dry and stable, all day. My feet to tend to get cold in them here in MN but that wouldnt change if they were 4000g. They are best hunting boots ive owned.
