Long Range Bow Kill

As many of you know, I do a lot of long range archery shooting. Well, I just increased my marin on longest kill shot. The conditions were right. No wind, deer were calm, and I felt "in the zone" or insync with my equipment.
Thus I took a doe at 75 yards. Slightly quartering away; double lung kill - she made in a mere 20 yards and expired.

I don't recommend this type of hunting to the average "slinger", but I do practice almost daily and feel very confident in my abilities. Just thought I'd share.

Only 1 more week left for archery deer in Ohio. Good luck to anyone else hunting.

That is an amazing shot, one that requires a lot of skill and practice. I would not, however, expect many pats on the back from this crew, given our general feeling towards long distance killing.

That's fantastic, I'm trying to hone in my skills with long range shooting. With a gun of course, if conditions are perfect and you feel confident I don't see any reason as to why you shouldn't take a shot. I took a antelope buck this year at 671 and he dropped like a tank. The day before I shot a few rocks at a grand which really boosted my confidence tremendosly. Practice and preperation is key

If conditions are right and you're a disciplined archer that shoots religiously and 75 yards being an effective range, then go for it. Good job

Congrats!, Thats right at what I would consider max range for anyone shooting a bow, but thats me. Theres a "discussion" going on right now on a FB archery group about a doe that a guy killed at 120 yards with his bow. I took a look at the fight time of the arrow, looked to be somewhere north of 1.5 seconds, I wonder what the wound to kill ratio is on those kind of long range shots. What stuck out to me, is the guys last pin is 100 yards, and he admitted it was a lucky shot and he was surprised he hit it.

If a person is surprised they "hit" an animal, they shouldn't be shooting in the first place IMO.
LR shooting and hunting in whatever discipline is a systems approach, and is way more than equipment or technology.
BC, sounds like you have a excellent practice regimen-congrats.
Honestly, most people are not willing to invest the time to be competent at that level.
I know I am no where near your level with a bow.

I don't agree with this scenario at all. Thanks for sharing.

I love to shoot long distances with my bow (100 yds) but only to make a 50yd shot seem easy witch is my max long shot on game animals. I love the challenge of trying to get close. To many variables for an animal to move, even if you can hold steady and hit an X that far.

I like to practice long range archery in the hopes I draw a western tag where a longer shot may be needed. This opportunity was very unique and I would never rush a shot on a spooked deer at this distance.
I took 2 other deer this year, 1 at 41 yds and the other at 12 yds, thus rest assured that I can get closer. :)

Don't worry, you'll get closer next time.

Even though I have not yet killed a deer with my bow I practice out to 60 yards all the time. I have had several close calls but I could not get closer that about 80 yards. For me that is out of my range.
But 75 yards doesn't seem like it's too far if that is in your comfort zone and you have a clear shot.

lucky shot, and surprised he hit it, wrong answer! everyones max range is different, the key is to know your max range in the given situation. bonecollector seems to know his max range , cangrats

Well said Packingin.
