Have any nonresidents on here ever got a leftover tag by mailing in a leftover request form? Is this new to the process? Just curious as to how this process works for those of us who cant camp out at an agent or cpw office. Can I still call in and try for a tag on Tuesday morn if ive mailed in a form?

All I know is that all left overs go on sale on 8/1 either by phone or in person. Or you can try your luck on what is left at midnight 8/2

There is a form for non residents on the leftover page to mail in. Just wondering how the process unfolded Are they entered into a random drawing or are they sorted by order they are received?

It took me a while to find that form.
If it was me and there were a lot of tags left where I wanted to hunt I might try the form if I couldn't get to a phone or do it on line. But the way a lot of the tags disappear quite quickly I don't think that I would risk if if I wanted to hunt.
I'd be on the phone at 9am Colorado time calling the phone number 1-800-244-5613 with what tag I wanted. And if I couldn't do it by phone I would be on line when they opened it up.

Ive never tried picking up a leftover or returned tag, but I see an archery tag on here that takes 5 pp to draw (there is only 1 of them). For something like this, do you just have to be the first one on the phone to buy this tag? Im not going to try this year, but I am just wondering if anyone has had experience buying a decent tag on the leftover list?

All left over tags are sold on a first come first sold basis.
Most of the left over tags will be for areas that are hard to gain access to or has some problems with access. At least for deer and elk.
Usually if a tag takes 4 or more points to draw it is usually gone during the regular draw unless it was returned and then it is suppose to go to the next person in line. Then if they turn it down they will try 4 others and if they all turn it down then it will go into the leftover pool.
The way that they have it outlined is towards the bottom if this page.

Are you sure that they aren't designated "Private Land"
Very rarely do any tags that take more than 5 points make it past the first draw not to mention the second choice draw.

I also noticed a few tags that are 5+ points. These will most likely go to residents, and after last years absurd tag returns, they changed the ways this year to ask 5 ppl if they want it before putting it back in the pool. Wish they would have kept it like last year, I knew several people who got premier tags without burning a point, but holy hell what a mess it was (is) on Leftover Day!!

I also noticed some pretty decent tags that made the list that should not have been there. There are a couple I have my eyes on that I know others are looking at as well, most won't be there long.

The tags that you only see 1 or 2 of them on the list and seem to be pretty good tags are most likely tags that were drawn and then turned back. They will go fast tomorrow morning. Last year I went and got in line a couple hours before the doors opened, when they started handing out numbers I was around #40 or so. Another 90 minute wait got me to the counter. I had a list with me of about 8 tags I wanted to try for that I thought would be decent tags, but there were only 1 or 2 available. I left with none of them. Somebody will get lucky and get those tags but I'm not spending my time doing that again. I usually pass pretty close to the CPW office on the way to work around 6:45 AM so I might swing past it in the morning just for grins to see how long the line is.
I have never looked at the leftover tags until this year, always assumed it was the tags that no one wanted. But as stated above, there are some pretty good tags that got returned this year. I'm gonna try my luck on the phone for an elk tag due to living in Texas. I'm trying for a low demand tag that I didn't draw as my 2nd choice this year, are 2 available. There are better tags available that took 4+ NR points to draw, but my dad drew this unit as his 1st choice so hoping to get to go with him. I just saw a facebook post of people already lining up at a CPW office in Colorado Springs I think it was.

I am sure someone picked this one up. It was an archery unit 49 tag, which I think is 4 or 5 points to draw NR. (I only now posted the actual tag just because I figured it is gone by now.) I already have fall plans with my dad so I didn't even bother.
