Does anyone have any suggestions for a digital land owner/public/private boundary apps? I was thinking that OnX might be a good one. It seems like it might not be effective when cell service is limited.

There are cell phone based maps that work even without cell coverage and OnXmaps might have that application. Go to their web site and check it out.

Other than that get a GPS that accepts their chips and you will have maps with you no matter what. The other plus to a GPS is that the batteries last a lot longer than a phones does and if they do go dead you can replace them with batteries off of a store shelf.

I use the Onyx on the late season cow hunts when the elk are lower and running around the BLM private areas. I got it on my phone and works well for me and areas I hunt. GPS/chip though is probably better as it does not rely on a data/cell signal needed.

Thanks guys. I guess now I need a GPS. Any suggestions there? I would like one with the radio also. Of course money is always an object.

A GPS is nice, but I have also used my phone in areas with no cell reception. You need to download your area to the phone ahead of time to use the maps "offline". Worked well when I was antelope hunting last fall. You will need a charger close by tho. You will drin a battery in less than a day if you run it all the time.

Remember on thing about any of the regular maps, chips, etc they are only as good (for accuracy of who owns the privare prop) as the date they were printed or data acquired. Land changes ownership, so I would recommend updating your chips at least annually or more frequent. Sometimes it takes our County several months to get changes onto their maps.

Thanks guys. I was kind of thinking that my phone would work without service. I appreciate the info/advice.

The Garmin Rino is the one with a built in radio. I just picked up the Rino 655t for $300. Deals out there to be had. Keep
An eye on Cabelas sales. Also know that BassPro is running their fall classic even at the moment. Maybe look into that.

garmin Oregon is a simple , much cheaper gps that does everything you need it for. I still have the 450T, wanting to upgrade but don't need to. it works. I paid $300 for it on sale 4 years ago.
