I shot that buck with a 7mm-08 with a 140gr. Barnes TSX. Dropped in his tracks but I put one more in him to stop his heart. I was only about 75 yards away and my hunting partner had his .375H&H, thus my "lighter" rifle!

As I've said, Kodiak deer is my favorite hunt in Alaska! You need to try it some time!

hello guys,

Yes we did. It was my first time ever cooking it up and honestly it was surprisingly good. Very similar to beef. Not gamey at all. I won’t ever skip pulling the quarters/back straps off them ever again.

thanks and regards

Very nice, congratulations on a great hunt.
I was so close to booking the kodiak hunt, was actually waiting for a return call with the latest rates for 2021. The call didn't come actually and I booked africa while I was waiting.
If we do end up going I'm thinking of using one of the rental cabins as a cheaper option than the boat based hunt. But looking at 2022 or later now

I had a really fun hunt on Kodiak last week. Saw plenty of deer and bears. Hunted hard in some high country but in the end, I took a nice buck near the beach. The buck had a hot doe and a young forked horn in a group of 6 deer. As soon as I shot the larger buck, the forked horn chased the hot doe and looks almost happy, doing a full lip curl!
I've shot larger bucks there, but this is a pretty good Sitka Blacktail.
Congrats AK!!!!
