I am all about doing whatever it takes to tag a nice buck or bull. For my deer hunts I hunt above timberline and do almost all back pack hunts. For elk I hunt the dark timber during late October and November and I stay in a base camp or my own bed and do day trips. The thought of backpacking in seem to be a bad ass thing these days. It is actually very expensive, physically demanding, and damn lonely if you are solo. It tries you mentally and physically but can be very rewarding if you succeed. I believe you can hunt both ways out west and be a successful hunter.
