With iOS 18, Apple is expanding the Emergency SOS via satellite feature to introduce Messages via satellite, a feature that will let you send texts even when you don't have a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. Available on the iPhone 14 or later, you can send and receive iMessages or SMS messages...

I haven’t. Always you my Garmin mini but this is cool if it is reliable

Can't wait.... there will be no hiding in the mountains from work at that point. I was kind of hoping this technology didn't come out for another 15 years...

So far it’s only on certain phones and I haven’t heard how good it is. So we might have another 5-10 years.

Somehow we got connected with a Beta tester, it is going to work. Timeline for release though is fairly cloudy.

Supposedly iPhone has it going at the moment. I don’t know because my phone isn’t one of the new ones that are able to have it.

Buddy was using it this season in elk camp. Watching and talking to him about, I wasn’t to impressed. He was constantly turning in circles trying to line the phone with a satellite to get it to send a message. He said it drained his battery significantly faster than normal and the fact you could only talk to other iPhones made it useless to us as a group. I’ll stick with the InReach for now.
