Well I've spent more than enough time in that area by this point. It takes hundreds of miles and a lot of time before things really start to click with how a lot of that country functions and is laid out. If you are planning on packing right up the river on the indian crossing trail I would suggest to get a new plan. The bottom of the imnaha river forks looks like a small civilized city these days during archery season. With the wolves in there now too and all the hunters the elk hunting is far from ideal right up the canyon. Theres a decent number of elk in that country, and some good ones here and there. Get away from the trail by a few miles or more and out of the way of where most guys want to go and you will probably find some animals.I am starting bow hunting this year and have decided to give the Imnaha unit a try for elk in September. I am planning to pack in solo for 4-6 days, and was wondering if anybody could recommend a good starting point. I'm going to go on one or two scouting trips this summer, but know this is big steep/deep country and any advice would be great.
