Hello fellow outdoorsmen,

I will be visiting the great state of Idaho from late August to mid November, and I'm looking to get into the hunting scene. I admittedly have never hunted and am only now learning the regulatory structure of Idaho's fish and game department. That said, what should a beginner like myself do to prepare? Is the hunting passport a good idea for a 20 y/o such as myself? I have no equipment except for full camo and backpacking gear, and I will not be traveling with experienced hunters and/or license holders.

Any and all information helps. I could not be more excited for my trip, and I look forward to talking with some of you!

Thanks again,
Emery

Welcome, good luck, and have fun!
Small game hunting would be an easy cheap option, along with fishing.

I would wager that you are also going to need a hunters safety certificate also before you even think of trying to purchase a license.

welcome to the forum.

if you've never hunted the first thing you should do ,is take a hunter safety coarse.

then decide what game you wish to go after . I also would suggest small game , or some type of bird hunting such as quail or dove.

whatever you pick watch some videos on the subject, there are lots to chose from. do everything you can to educate yourself on your preys habits.

but first ,safety above all else. can't hunt if your dead and you probably won't desire to if you kill someone else.
