I have a dilemma, what would you do?

I'm moving to Evanston next month from Utah. I am going to burn my points in Wyoming for deer and antelope, prolly put in for G on the regular w/ a couple buddies we avg 5 points. I am thinking about 93 for lopes on the special draw, I only have 3 points so not much of a chance, but still a chance. Here's the dilemma, I have enough points to draw an archery elk tag in Utah on a decent unit, but can't really afford the special lope tag and the LE bull tag. So given the choice, what would you do? Let my lope points go and hunt Utah, apply for lope in Wyoming and keep buying elk points in Utah (it might be 20 years before I could draw as a non-res) or forget about Utah, I've heard the elk hunting in Wyoming is fantastic. Thanks in advance.

Once your a resident in WY preference points are non-existent and drawing goat tags is relatively easy.. I would definitely burn your Utah points and hunt elk before you become a non-res...But thats just my thoughts. I have drawn a goat tag every year i put in as a WY resident so far...I dont put in for the top units though..just fun hunts. But every unit in WY can put out good goats, I took a 78" one this year on a tag not known for trophies at all. Just my thoughts. I love chasing goats, but I love chasing screaming bulls quite a bit more

I just thought to look at the app periods, Utah posts results on May 29, Wyoming deadline is May 31. I guess if I draw an elk tag in Utah, I'll lose my lope points or put in for an easier unit.

This is just my own opinion......

I'd get the Utah tag and hunt WY deer, forgetting about the special Antelope.
I think you have plenty of antelope in your future and I'd latch on to UT while you can!

WY deadline/change period is extended to June 1 in 2015 because of the weekend.
If you draw UT just change the Antelope app to unit 59.

I would put Utah Elk above all else while you are still a resident. I dont think you will have a problem getting WY antelope tags as a resident.

My Wyoming resident buddies are averaging 50% draw in an area that takes non-residents 5 points. Focus on Utah while you can- the antelope options will be plentiful as a resident.

Don't burn your Utah points now!

I would buy a lifetime license in Utah before you move! It is my understanding that you will be in the draw in Utah as a resident in future years, even though you have moved and changed residency. Continue to build Utah points and draw in the resident draw in Utah in a future year. I do understand you will have to pay nonresident tag fees when you do draw.

Check on that to make sure it still works. I would do anything for a Utah lifetime license.

Keep in mind that a G deer tag will be a tag you can get every year living in Wyoming.

That sounded like a fantastic idea Jim, but according to the Utah DWR website they haven't issued Lifetime Licenses since 1994!
