Just found out a friend of mine's son drew a Unit 10 elk tag with 7 points. Obviously a hybrid tag, pays to apply!!! Lucky kid.
Yep you are right. I drew a hybrid antelope tag in 2012, it can be done. They always say you don't have a chance if you don't apply.
The kid has a great hunt ahead of him.
I used to say that until I drew a great New Mexico elk tag. I didn't capitalize on it though.I could try for 100 years and not draw it.
I'm the type of person that can't draw a tag if there are 99 tags and 100 applicants. I would be that one that didn't draw.
I've been working on it now for over 50 years in the draws, I don't have too many left in me.I used to say that until I drew a great New Mexico elk tag. I didn't capitalize on it though.
Your luck could change in an instant. Keep at it!
My friends son is 35 years old!!!I'm with Jim on this one! I don't get lucky like some people i know on drawing tags. My ex-wife drew 128-1 mule deer tag in Wyo. her 2nd year applying. Think it was 2% draw odds then, she also drew a bull buffalo tag here in Wyo. her 3rd year applying. And has drawn a few good antelope tags area 64 in Wyo. 3 times in about 6 years. I'm still at it for buffalo and 128 deer. I'm not as old as Jim, "sorry Jim" but i'm catching up in a hurry it seems. I did finally draw my moose tag here in Wyo. but i looked at draw odds and what areas i could draw with my 13 points and put in. I don't see the moose herds getting any better anytime soon and i wanted to shoot one before they are a once in a lifetime tag here in Wyo.
Also, does it seem a little "fishy" that alot of youths draw good tags like moose,mt. goat or bighorn sheep here in Wyoming usually within the first 3-4 years applying? I would like to know how many adults to youths are in the same draws together, I would bet it's 8 to 1 or more. But low and behold alot of youths seem to draw tags pretty readily from what i've seen. I wonder if the fish and game dept. are trying to recruit more hunters and what better way to get a kid away from his iphone or computer than to give them a highly coveted trophy tag that some people will never draw in their life time? Just my "theory" on that!
