I'm old school yes the havlons are super sharp, but I only want to buy something once.that said brings issue 2 since all the American steel mills have closed down its hard to get good steel, so you have to look at what kind of steel the knife you like is made of, to find a good knife that sharpens easy and holds an edge good you have to pay for the higher quality steel, it's a sting to the pocket book but you'll have the knife your looking for, and not buying refills all the time, what is your travel time, gas and wear and tear on your truck worth?

I have had a kershaw for about 15 yrs. If my wife would let me I'd sleep with it. Holds an edge well and very easy to sharpen.

Bar none the best the best knife i own is the one i made out of a old saw mill blade. BUT, my cutco is a very close 2nd. I have tried outdoor edge, buck, schrade, spyderco, & gerber. None of these kinives hold a candle to my cutco. The cutco is lite, great handle, easy to sharpen, holds an edge, & tough. I like the orange handle so i can find it. At 80 bucks you can't go wrong.

Best knife I have is one made by a guy on the central coast of CA named Mike Sheridan. Dont think he makes knives much anymore, I got one of the last ones he has made. Hands down one of the best hunting knives I've seen. I will not go hunting with out it, that said the havalon is always with me also.

Nice to see I'm not the only one on the planet that doesn't think the Havalon is the best thing since sliced bread! I tried it on two animals only to pick up another knife to finish the job. I quickly sold it... I'm the minority though. Most guys love it.

I bought a Havalon a while back due to all the hype and I can now say I'm not a fan. I always throw it in my pack because it's so light but never end up using it. I'll stick with Lone Wolf. I also really like Buck and Kershaw but Lone Wolf makes one heck of a knife.

I just used a Case stock man for many years. I now use a Nesmuk style for most everything. I do like a Buck skinner but still rely on anything up to elephant size.

I have a Schrade folding knife which is very similar to the Buck 110. My son has the Buck 110 and it is a great knife also. Both are very good knives. This is my favorite knife though. It is made here in Montana and the make is Ruana. This is the Steelhead model which for me is about the perfect size and shape for most jobs in the field.

Picked up a havalon peranta after I watched Guy cruise through a bull with it on this site. I have been more than happy with this knife, lightweight weight and crazy sharp!

Used the Havalon extensively last season and worked awesome.

Was skeptical at first but it never disappointed.

Just my two cents.

I've used a Cabelas knife, a kershaw, and a Gerber different years. As long as you don't need to cut through big bones, and you don't dull the blade on the hair I found to my surprise that a sharp knife will butcher an entire animal without sharpening. I always carried 2 knives, but next year I'll just bring one, and a small pocketknife. I like a sturdy knife with a strong blade I can use for cutting branches or other things in a pinch. The Havelon knives are tempting though...

Used a Havalon for the first time last year and was very impressed with it. I did not find the blades to be brittle, in fact I was able to process two antelope with just one blade.

I bought this set from outdoor edge. The Dark Timber combo. Absolutly love the steel, and it fits very well in the hand. And they look sharp on the belt!!! These have made it with me three elk now, and one deer. So far only lightly touched the edges with a stone.

Well the guy that owns the company says on his website that he personally oversees the developement and testing of every knife they make...... And the blades have the word China stamped on the steel. So you decide....

I dont really care one way or another where they come from, but I do care if they work and these do very well.

Too bad the owner is clueless about truthful marketing! :D
