How late is too late?

Second time antelope hunter planning a Wyoming antelope hunt this year somewhere south of Casper. Haven't really decided yet where, but we have some points to use. We were unsuccessful in last years draw, so hoping we can cash in this year another point level up. We hunted first time in 2013 and got a couple 70" bucks and were very happy for our first antelope. We are hoping to spend more time and up the bar this year. Looking for upper 70s minimum while searching for more!

We wont be able to hunt till October, which will likely be post rut periods, but how late is too late?
Obviously the later one gets weather become more of a factor, but the seasons do typically run till end of October.

Is herding a problem? Are there any migration routes or locations we should be aware of?

My fear is we will get into a spot 2nd/3rd week of October and all the big bucks in a unit will have congregate in some specific spot or worst case leave the unit and wont be able to find them.

Any and all thoughts, ideas, suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'd call the biologist for the particular unit you are interested in. Different units have different issues. They will be able to tell you where the antelope in your unit will winter at.

We have hunted antelope many many times in the October 1-10 timing and had a great time. In fact that is my preferred time to go.

I prefer to hunt antelope at the end if season, just less people. The advise above is good, contact local warden and bio.

Yes call the G&F. Late season can be especially rewarding if they start herding up for winter. We have hunted an area that goes until mid November with good results. Just remember, horns start dropping in November some years. SE and south central Wyoming have had great moisture so far with a mild winter. Our antelope numbers are good with good horn growth so far.

WI and where tags takes me!
I was curious myself about going after the opening day/weekend rush for a higher quality hunt. My son and I should draw 57 this year with our max points. The number of tags in this unit was my concern and the reason I was thinking of going a little later.
