Every late season I try to take a couple new hunters out for their first deer. This year was tough with the super cold temps but I did help a couple guys with their firsts. I thought I would share a pic from last night of a guy with his first doe deer. He has the bug... It's so much fun to share that experience with someone.Doe.jpg

Very cool of you to do that. I also enjoy taking youth first time hunters or any youth for that matter.

Kudos! This one of the most critical things we can do to insure the long term viability of hunting. I try and do the same thing most years.

No problems at all. Thankfully there were no bad shots so everything stayed pretty clean. We move pretty slow while teaching in hopes that they retain it and can duplicate on their own in the future.
When one of my girls was taking her Wyoming hunter safety class the instructors brought in a road killed moose and gave a demonstration on gutting. I thought that was the best hands on training exercises ever. No political correctness, just good practical instructions. Has anyone else ever heard of a hunter safety class doing this?

that is awesome.

I think back to my first mule deer ,some 40 years ago. can't believe how green I was.my dad was not a hunter so ,pretty much had to learn on my own. when I killed my first deer I was with a friend who had hunted a lot. good thing he was there ,because I had no idea how to gut a deer. I had gutted fish and rabbits so I could have winged it and gotten by but it was he who showed me how to do it correctly.

not all newbies have someone to show them the ropes.
that's is part of why I like taking youngsters out on their first hunts and a good part of why I help those I can on this site.

kudos to all that endeavor to pass on their knowledge to the youth.
