First off I hope all you father's had a great day yesterday. For me I can't imagine a better Father's Day. I left early in the morning with my best friend to do a little flyfishing. He lost his dad when we were in junior high so we always try to get together on Father's Day for a while. When I got home I took my daughter over to my parents so my dad and I could take her swimming. I though that the day couldn't get any better until my parents revieled the Remington 700 SPS SS .243 they got me. Now I just need to get a scope for it. I'm kinda on a budget of $400 or less so let me know what you guys would suggest. I have always used Leaupold but have been looking at Vortex.

Come on BB I know you have an opinion. :D

I have never had any issues with Leupold, from the Rifleman to the VX-II they have always been tried and true. Happy Fathers Day and good luck taking that first animal with your new .243!

And to think I was happy with my new KUIU beanie :) Congrats and Happy Fathers Day, late of course. I am a fan of good quality used stuff. I would venture to guess you could pick up a used 3-9x40 Vari X III scope for that price in great shape. You just cant go wrong with that scope.

Congrats! I'm sporting almost identical rifle, I drank the Leupold juice a while ago and it is all I own however I have detoxed and here to tell you there are a bunch of great scopes out there not just Leupold. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with Leupold but I think you can get just as much scope with less of a price tag with vortex and other companies. I believe the next scope I buy will be a vortex or a high end swaro, zeiss, night force etc..... Good luck you will love shooting that rifle. I killed my first couple mule deer with mine now it's loaded down and is my varmint/coyote gun.

My Brother-In-Law recently got a nice rifle. He went with the Redfield line. Owned by Leupold and has that wonderful lifetime warrantee. They have a new scope out called the Revenge. It has a really nice rangefinder reticle system built in like none I have ever seen. Works very well. And they boast a price that is hard to pass up on.

Well..for its price very clear. The only thing I do wonder about it its life time of clarity. Ever notice how low end optics amaze you out of the box? Then a few years pass and they start to look like the haze of LA got dropped inside of them? Not sure why that happens unless its because they loose their seal and dont stay as clear.
If the warrantee is for real though...why not try it out. Can always get it replaced if it fails you.

Haven't tried one but looked threw them at the store, Redfield seems to be a nice scope and they are made by Leupold. They have some pretty nice reticles also. Just a thought hope you find the scope your looking for!!!

I love my nikon buckmaster, and at that price point they were the best I found a few years ago when I bought them. Vortex seems at least as good at that price for the money. I would buy another buckmaster in a heartbeat, but wouldn't hesitate to try a vortex either!
