One of Guy's units is my favorite unit for deer. I have max points and still cannot draw it. Hunted it back in the 80's & 90"s and did well. I'll keep trying............

I'm just not lucky enough to draw one of my favorite areas that is among those listed. We don't have points as residents and have to rely on luck. Something that I have little of. I keep trying though. Good luck to you Cowboy.

99 out of a 100 fawns collared in G and H died over winter? Wow. Harsh.. That's going to have an impact over the next few years.

Yeah, this will have a long term impact. Could be rough over there for quite a while.

99 died out of 100...yikes

At what point are they going to shut the season down to try and let the herds bounce back I wonder?

Harvesting bucks really won't hurt or help the situation. The remaining does will get bred regardless. The real negative impact to hunters will be the loss of that complete generation of bucks 2-5 years from now and the overall loss of production from the doe fawns that could have produced more bucks over the next 4-10 years.

G/H are going to be rough for a while. Tough winters like we just had kill the young and the old, the old is what many aren't talking about.

The 5-7 year old bucks are generally the ones who head into the winter with weak fat reserves due to the rut. The bucks in this age class got hammered this past winter.

That said, there will still be a few monsters that come out of G/H but I am betting there will be a lot of disappointed NR hunters when all they find are the 150-60 class in most places.

Almost every unit in western Wyoming is 3 pts or better this year. I assume since they're won't be any forkies next year, that they're trying to preserve this years crop. I've never seen them do this. Then again, more units have gone to 4 pts or better for a few years then to 3pts. Just surprising to see the big mountain units like the greys going to point restriction

I think the point restriction is a good thing to help manage the herd. No more shooting "meat" bucks the last few days. I will be over there alot this summer and fall scouting for my bull moose tag i drew. Maybe i will get a first hand look at what is left over there. If i don't draw my limited quota area i will probably pick up a general tag just incase one of the big bucks made it through winter and decides to step out in front of me. I'm more of a rophy hunter so the point thing won't bother me, i havn't shot a mule deer in Wyoming for at least 5 years. I usually shoot a whitetail buck instead of a small mule deer. Lets hope we have a few mild winters coming up to help out the deer herd there.

I disagree. Deer will tend a single doe the whole time she is in estrous. Mule deer might not be quite as bad as whitetail to lock down completely away from other deer, but the tendency is still there. Sure all the does will be bred but will it be during their 1st, 2nd,or 3rd cycle? The later bred does will give birth to fawns late that won't be able to handle even an average winter, must less a severe one. Fawn mortality from predation will be higher without a "saturation" of fawns being born at the same time.

I agree the doe fawns lost will be the biggest detriment to herd growth.
