I have never been on a guided elk hunt here in Colorado. I have 12 points and I am looking for suggestions from Forum members who have actually been with the outfitter they are suggesting. I don't think I can do anymore wilderness hunts as my 83 year old body is wearing out! I have been on about 20 wilderness horseback hunts, but just not in Colorado. Can't do a ton of hiking due to a chronic bad back.

Not looking for huge 400" bull either. Just respectable 350 to 360 would do it. Open for all rifle seasons, just no M/L or archery. I know most of the outfitters will be booked for next year, so I'll probably have to do a 2026 hunt.

Since you are a resident of Colorado I don't think my post will effect your's. I too would like help, as age is a factor for me as well. I have 15 nonresident points to use asap. Any help would be appreciated. Good Luck CC, I hope we both find a great opportunity.

The best thing that you can do is to look at a few different units. Then go onto Colorado statistics page and look at what those units require for the type of hunt that you would like. With 15 points I would look at units that require 13 or 14 points for a almost guaranteed draw. Even being a resident I put in for a muzzle loader elk tag in unit 61 that took 15 points, I had 17. That year it took residents 16 points for a guaranteed tag, I know two residents who didn't draw with 15.

I have an idea for you CC. I’m hunting 3rd season now but I’ll get ahold of you when I get back.
