Unfortunate and feel bad for him and his family...but when you bump bears off of a carcass, these things happen from time to time.

I fully support state management and limited grizzly seasons, but killing a handful of bears a year isn't going to stop this type of thing from happening.

It’s a very sad and unfortunate event. It’s definitely a risk that’s involved when enjoying the outdoors in grizzly country, especially when alone. I strongly agree though there should be a season on grizz in the lower 48. There’s going to be more and more of these events.

my condolences to the family
yes a season would be nice
no, not enough will be killed to scare the bear of humans
i don't agree all predators should be gone. keeps things spicy and sometimes the predator becomes the prey. sad but true. Not everything or everywhere should be deemed safe.

What a tragedy for his family, my condolences to them. I tend to agree with Tim, not everything should be or can be deemed “safe”. But it does seem to me that it’s time to thin the Apex predators out a bit (though my experience with them is limited - frankly I’d like to shoot one). But, I certainly would not advocate for extermination. Sometimes bad things just happen, cars run stoplights, tires blow out...not everything is in our control and tomorrow is not guaranteed. Sounds like just plain bad luck on his part - wrong place wrong time, tragic but it happens.

no it might not scare em but it will make em at least ,some bit more wary then they now are. wolves around here were getting pretty brazen and aggressive also before they let folks start killing them. now you seldom see one .

I actually like having some around also but not if the antis won't allow proper management . this mans death and any others who are killed before hunting resumes is on them in my humble opinion.

maybe they should put reparations to the families of the fallen! ;)

not many want them exterminated . problem is not many want em in their yards either .
so aggressive management (hunting ) is the only logical solution.

personally , I don't want to see it happen but if they go extinct I will not shed a tear .

In a perfect world I would like to see a few Apex predators like wolves and grizzlys. I would like to be able to trap and hunt them, but we are dealing with people today who will not even recognize the difference between genders, there is absolutely zero chance there will ever be common sense management of these animals. Any approved harvest will be so small it will not scratch the surface of the problem. The wolves numbers here in Michigan will not decline until they eat themselves out of food. I have no faith in Michigan's government to do anything in terms of managing these animals.
I don't know if some sort of harvest would have saved this poor man's family from the anguish they are currently going through, but it may have.
