Gravediggers for elk?

Hey everyone,

Put some time in at the range the past three days and tried shooting two different types of broadheads. First one was the QAD Exodus (full, not swept). I couldn't get this thing to fly right. At 20 yards, I was drifting 3-4 inches right and low. I tried different fletchings (Blazers, FOBs, and 3 inch Eastons) and it didn't make a difference. I tried it at 40 yards and almost missed my rinehart target.

Next I shot the 100 grain gravedigger COC hybrid mechanical. This thing grouped within 1-2 inches of my field tips at both 20 and 40 yards. I have more confidence shooting this head than trying to correct broadhead flight with the exodus.

Has anyone had any first hand experience with the gravediggers on elk? Pros/cons? Not looking to start a broadhead war, just some honest findings.

Thanks!

I haven't heard a lot about them to be honest. Interesting heads though. On a side note, your bow is out of tune if your qad heads won't fly right. Low means you need to lower nick point and to the right means you have a weak spine. Decrease poundage in your bow or if you have yokes press the bow and twist cables. This will help the grave diggers and qad heads fly better.

I would never use mechs on an elk.and ya your bow is out of tune. You need to adjust nock points and rest or yoke tune

The beauty of gravediggers is that they are a fixed and mechanical combination. Should the mechanical side not deploy the fixed blade side will do the job.

Oh they are a hybrid type?I wonder if that would be legal in Oregon? What state are you hunting elk in?
Take a look at their cut on contact, they have a 1 inch cutting profile which you would need to check on with your regs to see if it is big enough.

So I tried the grave diggers (Cut on Contact, 100gr) today, my bow may be out of tune, but it still grouped next to my field point at 40 yards today. I'm very happy with the group at that range. I'm hunting in Montana, and I believe mechanicals are legal here.
