Just learned that I drew GMU 10 for the second archery season.

Results are in but hard to get to. I live in Tucson and called the Tucson office and they were able to look it up.

Anyone have any experience with 10 and the late season archery hunt? I understand half of it is tied up in a private ranch but for a small fee, I can gain access.

I drew a Unit 10 archery elk tag (September hunt) after applying for 15 years. I haven't hunted that unit since 1997, so plan to arrive two weeks early to scout before the hunt begins. I'm sure a lot has changed since I last set foot there.

PM me your personal information and I'll give you a update with some site specific information after my hunt that might help you with your hunt.

That's a good unit to hunt. Yes the ranch is big and your'e right about the fee. They tried to make it private, that fell through. Good thing. Unit 10 is massive with lots of opportunity to see Deer, elk, Turkey and Antelope. The higher concentrations of elk are located on the eastern and southern parts of the unit. With good pair of boots and quality optics you should have no trouble locating a good sign of animals. Is it an elk tag or deer tag?

Wanted to thx folks again for the replies and sent some PMs today. Have been off forum for some time due to work commitments etc...

Was able to get a small 4x4 on second trip up to Colorado during archery season.

Heading into AZ GMU 10 during Veteran's Day weekend for some scouting and then hit it hard for the two week season in Nov.

Will let you know how it goes.

I will be headed to AZ for the jan OTC deer bow hunt and would love any info on GMU 10. I hear it is a great unit for elk, but not much info out there about mule deer. I plan on unit 41 or 27 as back ups if weather is extreme in unit 10.

I'll likely spend some time on the Big Bo Ranch, which may be closed during the Jan hunt. Some tips I've received have me also preparing to hunt some areas off the ranch. If I see any Mule deer, I'll let you know.

I just got back from a two day scout. I cut it short thinking that any bull I glass up now will not likely be in that area 5 days later. Some info I've found does indicate if they feel safe and there's plenty of food, they may stick around replenishing weight lost during rut.

I managed to glass up a monster 6x7 Sunday morning. I watch him walk through open rolling hills and browse on juniper trees for nearly an hour. Muzzleloader season is in right now so if someone else doesn't find him, maybe he'll be in the area for me on opening day. The two days I scouted, I only saw two other hunters and they were both in the same spot.

Take care and good luck in Jan.

Thanks, I plan on hunting the Boquillas Ranch as well. Seems the junipers/pinyons is where most of the good mule deer are taken.
Good luck with your elk hunt, this unit is supposed to be filled with big bulls. Maybe I will be drawn for the bull tag...
