Lots of fires burning in eastern Washington, north Idaho and western Montana this year. No winter snowpack and no rain this year have made for some extremely dry conditions. A couple of lighting storms and poof you have new elk habitat being created.

Unfortuntaley a lot of house have been lost and there are so many fires, that a lot of them are not being patrolled at all. Most of this years fires will be put out by mother nature when the fall storms start to roll in. That usually isn't until mid October though. Still 2 solid months of fire season.

the Coeur d alene river drainage has over 20 fires burning alone. Lots of closure's in north Idaho, I have not paid enough attention to Montana or Washington for forest closures. I also know of closures in the bonners ferry ranger district, the cda river ranger district and the st joe river ranger district.

Also the fire by Kamiah is bad, lots of houses are being destroyed.

I can remember the 2007 fire season in Montana. Smoke was terrible. Hopefully SW Montana wont be to smokey this season. Hope others are safe out there. Wondering how many hunting closures there will be in the states effected??

south west Montana has been wet. I was just down there last weekend and was commenting to myself how green it was.

We have smoke here like I never seen before. It rolled in all of a sudden around 6 tonight. Smells like pine burning. Washington state is asking for volunteers to help for the first time ever.

Smoke has been thick at times in western montana and when the wind picks up it gets better. Sw Montana was fairly good this weekend with the exception of Friday evening being horrible.
