Fresh Water Ponds

I have a pond on my property here in SW Colorado. It is fed by seasonal irrigation water. It is about 12 to 14' deep and I stocked it with bass, bluegill, channel cats and sterile grass carp for weed control. They all do well. I do get a few mosquitos during the summer.

I am going to start raising mosquitofish (Gambusia) to add to the pond for mosquito control and forage for the fish.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge raising them? I have done some research and am getting ready to set up a tank in my shop.

We have mosquito fish of some sorts down here - they are everywhere. If it rains and an area floods, often the fish are there. No idea what they do during dry spells. Where I'm going is that the little guys are tough. That's all i know.

The main reason I am going to use them is that they are pretty easy to raise, they tolerate large fluctuations in water temperature and quality and they multiply fast. They will provide forage for the Bass and Bluegill and probably eat some mosquito wigglers too.

Just really wanting to know if anyone else has any experience with them.
