Hey fellas
I’m considering a new rifle purchase and would like some input forum you guys.

On my list is the folding stock rifles Bergara MG Lite in .308 and the Seekins Element Hunter also in .308

Im leaning more towards the Bergara just because of weight but not sure if that should be my only reason to going with it? I haven’t owned either brand of rifles but have used Seekins scope rings and they have worked well for me. Cost is pretty much the same for either rifle.

What’s your thoughts?

I’ve added a recent review on the Bergara Todd did.

I don’t own either. Have heard a lot of good things about both. Have come across a few things where people have had issues with it the Bergara. I know that’s not much help. What’s your end goal with the rifle? If your wanting a lighter rifle, than I would go with the Bergara. Seekins makes good stuff, so it’s hard to pass on their quality. My guess both will shoot good enough to kill something hunting.

Yes the weight is a big factor for me. I will be using as my backpack rifle mostly for deer hunting.

How much weight will you save with a folder?

In my way of thinking especially for backpacking is to keep it simple even if it weighs a little bit more. There is always a chance of something happening where the folding mechanism might malfunction or just plain break, or stick in one position or another.

I know that it likely wouldn't happen but would you risk your chance at a trophy animal on the odds that it won't?

I am pretty old school and I have a hard time with the "new " stuff being used for shooting and hunting today.

I had a tough time with the composite stocks when they first came out, but for a hunting rifle they are hard to beat. So what do I know.......!!!

*If you are just looking for a light and short gun, take a look at those new 16.25" Howa Super Lites.

Even the wood stock model is pretty light.

I might switch out the stocks and see just how light it is. It's got to be ~ 5 pounds with a scope I would think.

Weatherby and Savage have some good options to work with.
I have all the Savage Lightweight options all ready. Lol

Like I really need a new rifle but these folding options just got me thinking about folding and light weight. In real time I don’t think I would have enough room in my pack to fold it down to store it so it would still have to be strapped onto my pack so I really don’t think the folding part of the rifles is much of a difference. No real reason to have it folded and strapped onto my pack.

Have a buddy that feels strongly about this... his answer is Seekins but i believe that is due to past issues with Bergara. I don't have experience with either.
