I put in for 6 deer. Sambar deer, gator, and hog tags. The hurricanes last year…if your hunt area was affected, they let you keep your pref points. They kept me at 4 for ML (5 for rifle)

So, looks like should get a ML and rifle tag.

Was surprised at how many applications i put in and what there is hope to draw. The gator app was a what the heck kind of a deal. Cheaper to just buy a wallet, just not as fun.

If a old girlfriend who lives down there hadn't gotten married I might think of trying my luck down there in the sunshine state.

Good luck on the draws.

Good luck on all your draws. Sambar sounds pretty cool; I've heard it's a tough hunt! Good luck on gator tags also.
I was actually looking at our OR draws and opportunities the other day and thinking the same thing about having a lot of options to get out and hunt.

My daughter and I did some pig hunting a few years back in Fl. My folks live in New Smyrna Beach.

A night bow fishing trip, iguana air gun and gator hunts are on my list of things to do soon.

I am going to pretend i am some one on this forum.

The non resident allocation of floridas tags better be and even split with residents, or the state sucks.

sorry, could not resist.

LoL! Anyway, there is no NR allocation.

The deer hunting pretty much sucks tho - We have a hunt area that allows like 900 permits and they kill about 20 deer. I stopped hunting there and go to a diff area that only allows about 250 permits.

Some of the turkey guys are starting to talk about it tho - the osceola turkeys get a lot of attention for folks wanting a turkey slam. The locals just want to be able to hunt and NR turkey guys make up the bulk of the turkey hunters south of Orlando it seems.

Let me know when you come down - even if it is just for a beer. I keep my boat just down the road from there.

Night bow fishing sounds interesting and they do it on the St Johns, iguanas are a couple hours south of here, and gators can be expensive if you don't hook up with a local.

Received a negative on the alligator permit. They say it takes about 3 tries to get one - no preference points issued.

Couple weeks to see the other draw results.

I put in for my GA WMA and State Park draws with a friend. Should be a good time if we draw them both.

Points for everything else.

Go hunt the Corp property around Lake Russel and Clarks Hill. There is more land to hunt there than a man could hunt in 17 lifetimes of hunting 365 days a year....

Hiya Bob! The reason we gotta sit and wait of the deer is cause we cant see very far most of the time. That might be another one of the culture shocks you are experiencing. I find western hunting to be fun and easier compared to this eastern stuff.

good luck on that bighorn tag. 30 points get you in the ballpark?

They are doing the draws right now -

So far no gator tag,
no archery deer,
no wild hog,

Hang tight - another 5 or 6 applications to follow.

Okay, things turned to the better

Have ML and Rifle permits.

Each is 3 days, allowed 1 guest, 2 buck limit - 10 inch main beam or 3 pts minimum. So we have 2 weekend hunts.

I spent a lot of time in Fl in the 70's working on the Shuttle program. Lots of gators and turkeys and a few hogs , but working 7 days a week leaves little time for much else. When I did have a day off here and there, I went fishing and diving.

I dont think you missed anything by not hunting while you were down here.
