Looking for advice on boots? Elk hunting Wyoming backcountry the last week of Sept. Brand? Type? Insulated or non? This coming from a SE and MW whitetail hunter?
I agree, don't skimp on the boots. I also do non-insulated, but be prepared for anything like Ivorytip said. I like good ankle support because the sidehills, skree slopes, downhill, etc. are hard on my ankles. Good luck, should be fun.welcome to forum, tell us a bit about yourself. you are in for a treat, you could have temps in 80's for highs or 30's for highs. lows well below 32 in the back country in late sep. i use non ins on my archery sep hunts in backcountry, im a fan of columbia but danners are hard to beat if your not wanting to spend 400 on some kentricks. dont be afraid to put out 150 to 250 on some decent backcountry boots, if you dont you will wish you had.
My wife would slap the ever loving you know what out of me if I put my hunting boots on the kitchen counter!Ivorytip is right, guide will know the train you will be in. Everyone is going to give you different boots they like. When walking a lot, go non-insulated. I bought the lowa Tibets gtx's last year to hunt Alaska for caribou and was very happy. You can find them as low at $200 (retail is $380); worth every penny in my book.![]()
