I'm headed out on my first lion hunt in the morning with dog. A good friend is bringing his dogs from Cali to hunt with me in Nv since they can't use dogs anymore. I'm very excited to learn how all this works.

I found my lion hunts with dogs fascinating. Enjoyed it very much. Some were very easy, some very hard. All depends on how far the dogs run the cat and if roads are there to help you get where you need to go. Otherwise all you have to do is keep up with the dogs on foot. We got on a Lynx once, chased it 15 miles, wore all of us out, took all day and half the night. Cougars usually do not run anywhere near that far, but all my hunts were in areas with plenty of trees. Good luck and have fun!

good luck ikeepitcold,
Aint nothing much finer that listening to a pack of dogs on a hot track. When we were running them I always hoped for a lion on a kill sight and full of venison as they didnt want to act so froggy and head out on a marathon. I am sure it will be an adventure to relive and remember your whole life.

This particular lion we are looking for did just that. He was sleeping under a tree with a fresh kill about 50 yards away. He was so stuffed full when I spooked him he ran about 100 yards then just slowed wat down and trotted off a bit then just walked over the ridge.

Lion hunts are pretty fun once the dogs get turned out. Looking for tracks isn't as much fun, but overall a good experience. My uncle and his buddies run dogs in nw nm for lions and I get to go with them when we get down there during the winter. Here is a pic from a week or so ago. Found a mama and kittens. Ended up treeing two kittens that day. Got some good pics before letting them go!image.jpg

Had a great time! Cut two tracks and sent the dogs twice but no luck. The tracks where a bit old but seemed like the dogs where on it anyway and started out hard then when they go toa side of the mountain where the snow had melted they shut down.

Can't wait to go again. It was so cool to watch the dog work and I learned a ton. I think I'm hooked. Hearing those hound way off in the distance is something you have to hear for yourself to really understand. It's like hearing and elk bugle just a few hundred yards away.

Thank for all the good luck I will be at this again soon!

Gonna have to get a pack of hounds now! Lol, it's another addiction. I can't believe we have no snow in Minnesota, hounds are waiting impatiently!

Man I would love to get out on a cat! Cut this track on the line the other day. We weren't too far behind him.
