For the past two years I have been trying to find a well kept low mileage Ford Excursion 7.3 diesel 4X4. I cant tell you how many I have looked at and finally was able to get a line on a nice one. There are a lot of vehicles that are tough to find but this search really tested my patience!! I found a 2001 7.3 with only 118,000 miles. My old hunting truck-daily driver with 283000 miles will get well needed rest !!

Tons of room in those! Sharp looking rig! I looked for about a year for my truck. Hard to find good used vehicles for a good price these days.

Looks like a nice one and 118k is barely broke yet! My old 96 F350 Powerstroke just turned 337k and is still running great! Take care of it and it will last forever!

Yea I am stoked to have finally found a decent 7.3 with low miles. It was garage kept and one family owned it for 11 years. The guy I bought it from knew the family and had every receipt, all the paper work for any work, warranty work and add ons. He even had the original window MSRP sticker.

01F250.jpg25, That is a great looking rig. In good shape for 13 years old. Here is my 01 with the 7.3 It has 82,000 miles on it. I bought it when it had 68,000 miles on it. It was owned by an older couple who hauled their 5th wheel in the summer. It didn't have a scratch on it when I saw it. But when I came back with the rest of the money to pick it up, he had backed into his mailbox and dented the back bumper. Like yours it has been babied all its life. I added the aluminum topper and the cap pack and it is always ready to go chase animals. My business owns two others with the 7.3. A 97 has 296,000 miles and the 96 has 245,000 miles and they have both been worked hard and just smoke a little more than normal. It is the best diesel that ford ever made. I always liked the excursion but I don't think I could drag a deer into the back:confused:

I was in a search for either a 7.3 box body style 4 door short bed or an 02 cummins 6 speed. Couldn't find a clean one to save my soul! Finally stumbled across a clean 02 6 speed at a dealership for all places. (Vegas doesn't cater to nice diesels too often) the guy just traded it in and they held it for a week while I rounded up the cash. I still keep an eye open for a four door 7.3 but am super happy with "redneck one" as we call it. Congrats on the find! I know how testing it can be!

I tried for a solid year to talk the wife into a 7.3 excursion she was dead set on a gas tahoe. Suprise suprise she got her way..

My Powerstroke found me! My cousin bought it new and totaled it in 2005 with 226k on it and I got it for salvage value and fixed it. Since then my cousin is on his third new truck and has now owned every diesel engine ford has made after the 7.3. His 6.0 was stolen, 6.4 had so many problems he ended up lemon lawing it, 6.7 has been good so far. His old 7.3 is still running strong with 337k on it now! Was fun reminding him his old truck was running great when his new truck was in the shop though!

I ordered a WeatherTech cargo mat that goes up to the 2nd row seating. I am pulling the 3rd row seating and to put my gear in and will build a rack for the receiver for coolers or game. It has a roof rack but I might build a hauler rack for the top as well.

I almost bought 7.3 flat bed but I travel a bunch and wanted something I can secure my gear in. By the way nice platform!!

The minute I saw the new 1999 Power Stroke Super Duty in 1997 I had to have one. I ordered one in Dec 1997 and finally took delivery in May of 98, truck is a 1999. I bought a Lariat F350 super cab, short bed, SRW, 4x4, auto trans. I still have it (just got back from Yuma,Az towing my 29' Denali trailer from a regional cowboy shoot). Truck has almost 240,000 on it and has never had any work done on it, just normal maintance. Tranny has never been apart. Unbelievable truck and engine. Too bad Ford doesn't still make it, IMHO it is head and shoulders better than the new ones!

You new ride looks awsome!

Its interesting that there is no 1998 model year F250/F350. Ford went from the 97 body style to the new 99 style. About 300K is when alot of little stuff you never thing about starts having problems. Steering column bearings, parking brake cables, idler pulley bearings on the fan belt, A/C pump, turn signal switch, window tracks, butteyfly valve coming out of the turbo that helps it warm up (mine is now wired open!), ect. I have had to do a bunch of that kinda stuff on mine since I hit 300K, but it has never had any major problems and uses maybe a quart of oil every 2000 miles and I think it leaks more then it burns.
