I got back a few days ago from scouting just south of Jackson WY and boy is that impressive!! After sitting there looking around and trying to figure things out I realize that I am really excited to head down in a few weeks and start hunting but I am also nervous and scared. I think it is just trying to make sure I take the right things and the right amounts of stuff up with me. I plan on packing enough for 4-5 days up at camp and if I need more I would hike back down to the truck to get more. I hope that doesnt happen though. I am sure that I am not the only one feeling this and hope everything goes great and that I am blessed to fill my tag.

Right on! Sometimes it take a few hunts for each hunter to determine exqactly what they need and don't need on a hunt like that. enjoy every moment of it and have fun. I spent most of yesterday, going through my gear, again, I am set and ready to hit the road in a few days.

That is great feeling, just check over your list, and then check it again like tommyp said. You will be fine, just enjoy the ride!

I too am extremely excited about my upcoming mule deer hunt. I am sitting in the desert half way around the world looking at gear I want to buy with the money I am saving over here. I have been on several hunts over the past three years but only for the adventure and to help pack out whatever my mentor knocked down. This is my first year with a tag of my own and I hope I get it right. Even if, like last year, the mulies out smart us I hope to have some great, new memories to add to my collection. Best us luck to you.

Best of luck, I love that nervous, scared, excited feeling! Normally cant sleep a lick the night before opening day. I'm with the other guys, pack your stuff then double check a few days in advance to give you time to remember items you need or items you don't need.

New Mexico GMU 37. The past three years were up north in the Carson & Santa Fe National Forests. One of my most memorable moments was hearing the wings of a few humming birds flying around me as I took picture after picture of flora and fauna in the early morning. And the struggle that ensued while trying to capture a picture of one that wasn't a complete blur. But the most memorable moment was sitting on the side of a mountain from before sunrise until after sunset watching the way the world reacted to the movement of the sun. Turkeys, coyotes, squirrels, birds of all types. Unfortunately not one mule deer showed up but it was worth every minute.

powerman good luck! jackson area???? have your griz spray handy brother.

Ya, going about 35 miles south of Jackson. I have griz spray and a .357 magnum just in case!! I was told the odds of seeing a grizzly are slim but there is that chance. So we will see I guess. You ever have any closer encounters with any ivorytip?

Sounds great. I used to live in Carlsbad when I was a kid and love it there. I always wanted to get a trip planned to go hunting there but time just moves way to fast!! Good luck Ammo!!

Sounds like you have learned to love the journey not just the hunt and like most have said just double and triple check and I am sure you will enjoy the ride with or without a filled tag. Good luck and I hope you take a nice one!

Powerman,
I don't remember from your other thread if you are going alone or not ?
I think you said you were. If you want, take a small, radio, a fully charged phone and a solar charger if you have one, a book or something to fight off boredom and lonelyness. Hope you sleep well after first night. Keep the bear spray handy. Take lots of pics and hammer a biggin' !

Thanks WYODon,
I plan on getting in their two days early and use the two days before season to scout some more and take alot of pictures. I was actually thinking about purchasing a SPOT locator. They seem like they would do the trick to send an OK message and also call for help if needed. I never thought about the book thats a great idea. I am pretty pumped just to say I did it!! I am hoping to shoot a nice one but if the opportunity does't present itself then oh well, it is just going to be an awesome experience.
